This is one of the ones that really gets me in terms of making me really bust a WTF. I don't think I heard of it as "CGI overlays" but rather holograms, but same difference really.

The thing is, I'm always down for a good conspiracy, and various conspiracies large and small have been proven over the years. But there's a limit, man. There's a fucking limit.

I'm not denying that plenty of conspiracies have existed. Still do. MK Ultra, Iran-Contra, pretty constant false flag events (note that there is a difference between "false flag" and "hoax"), etc. I'm not talking about plausible lines of inquiry. I'm talking about wildly implausible theories based on zero evidence.

I like the conspiracy theory about conspiracy theories. They introduce a bunch of crazy ones so people think all conspiracy theories are crazy. Or interject some crazy shit into plausible ones.

I think that theory is plausible. If we look at people like Alex Jones as paragons of conspiracy theorists, the very idea of conspiracy theories will look absurd by extension.

I don't buy into the media. Like I said, I'm an enthusiast, and I love the basic idea behind the conspiracy theorist community, which is a search for the truth. Unfortunately, some people go out of their way to manufacture unsubstantiated bullshit.

I mean, people were called CT nutters for the concern that Facebook(or any corporation) would sell/use private data for nefarious purposes and look what happened.

I think you (and a lot of people) are missing the point of the thread. I'm not here to criticize legitimate inquiries.

Just a few years ago, during my time on Tumblr, I got called a "right wing conspiracy nut" when I talked about the slippery slope of PC language policing, and now a man is facing a prison sentence for making a satire video that shows his pug giving a nazi salute.

I deleted Facebook a couple of years ago, because I knew they were selling data to third parties for advertisement revenue.

I'm a conspiracy enthusiast. I love reading in-depth about conspiracy theories, but the more I do, the more I realize how fucking idiotic some of these people are. I'll give a few examples and update the thread with more when I have more time to collect some data on the pure low-IQ madness in these circles.

I've read some insane stuff that people seem to believe (in order from the more common to the most absurd):

• Sandy Hook was a hoax. Not a false flag, but a straight up hoax. No one died. This theory is "bolstered" by claims that the school wasn't open at the time. No substantial evidence for this theory. Would require thousands upon thousands of cooperative "actors" to pull off.
• Pulse Nightclub Shooting was a hoax. Not a false flag, but a straight up hoax. No one died. The theory is "bolstered" by the idea that the building didn't have sufficient parking for the number of clubgoers. No substantial evidence for this theory. Would require hundreds of cooperative "actors" to pull off.
• 9/11 wasn't just an inside job. It was the result of a "direct energy weapon" fired from space. Or perhaps the result of miniature nuclear explosions. This theory is bolstered by the fact that first responders developed cancer. No substantial evidence for this theory. Would require thousands of cooperative "actors" to pull off.
• 9/11 was a hoax. Not a false flag, but a straight up hoax. No one died. No one was in the buildings. No planes flew into the buildings. The visuals were CGI overlays during planned controlled demolitions. No substantial evidence for this theory. Would require thousands upon thousands of cooperative "actors" to pull off.
• Flat fucking earth.

I have other things that'll be worth bringing up when I have time to listen to podcasts to pull quotes. Most notably, literally any episode of The Higherside Chats. I'm fairly certain the host purposefully brings the most nutty fucking people on his show to low-key make fun of them.

Nah, maybe some small effort was there from the Russians(vastly smaller than previous US influence in Russia and many other nations) but the real issue is its been blown up massively by the establishment in the US that is both terrified of a potential lowering of tension with Russia and that with Hilary's defeat the right wing of the democrats might loose control and a genuine left wing candidate could be in a position to challenge next time. Putin provides a nice scapegoat for her failure(and the failure of much of the media like CNN) rather than self examination.

Its really the same effect as other conpsiracys, it plays to simplistic drives like nationalism well.

It amazes me how real conspiracies fly under the radar, while bat shit crazy ones get all of the attention.

There are so many financial conspiracies that people are just oblivious to them. Paulsen's peddling shitty mortgage packages to Goldman that he knew Euro banks would eat up while betting against the packages he created and set up for Goldman, was absolutely a conspiracy.

The one that never gets any attention is the attempt by big banks to soil Google's IPO. Go back to the time when Google announced they were not going with a bank as an underwriter for their IPO, but rather to do a dutch auction --- and look at the massive number of negative articles about Google's business. It's just hilarious. This was a major threat to investment banking's big cash cow and Google needed to be put in their place. It's amazing to think that they had to lower their offering price to $60 from $80, now that they trade at $1100 - LMAO.

The guy started out with just little things that you listened and thought "hmm, I should check that out" now it's gotten to the point that I dread seeing him at family functions, I try to stay on the other side of the room just to avoid him.

Now there are the false flag conspiracies about the Parkland shooting, which is about 20 minutes from me. I've read some of the things and all I can say is that it's just total crap, there was one person on BB.com that was spouting off all kinds of crap about military helicopters flying overhead during the "operation" which never happened.

The simplest thing about these conspiracies is that at some point someone involved would have spilled the beans at some point, a majority of crimes are solved because someone can't help themselves about talking about it to someone. So to think that a conspiracy that involved hundreds to thousands of people could stay secret for very long is pretty naive.
