Are Americans falling behind in MMA?

8 Championship Belts on the Men's Side - 6 are in the hands of US athletes

4 Championship Belts on the Women's Side - 1 is in the hands of a US athlete

7 out of 12 UFC belts controlled by the USA. No other country has more than 1. If the USA is losing, who the fuck is winning?

What a dumb post.

It's also an American organization with predominantly American fighters and where American fighters (or English speaking) also are favored.

Americans also still aren't "losing" either. If the demographics of the USA were less favorable they may have less belts but they would still be probably the major force in MMA.

7 of 12....
So we don't dominate it..
And
We really fail in the grappling sports of judo and wrestling

You must have misread the post. Every other country has 1. The USA has 7. The USA has a 7:1 advantage over any other country that controls a belt. 7 to 1. What the fuck do you call domination then? I consider 7 to 1 dominant.

I don't know honestly I think it's American training that sucks even though we have the biggest best gyms and resources we still don't use them properly.

You can see this in the MMA video games there are more foreign names then there are Americans.

these are the people who over the long-term have dominated mixed martial arts in America

despite having all the resources in the world we have the worst training because it separated it into monetary income streams ( multi martial art gyms cafeteria-style rather than straight mma from day one)

If you take two identical twins and one trains in Brazilian jiu-jitsu wrestling and Muay Thai and the other one straps on a pair of cage fighting gloves and trains nothing but MMA from day one the MMA twin is going to monster Mack the multi-disciplined twin.

Russians had combat sambo,
Brazilians had Vale tudo/bjj
Japanese had shooto

All we had were a few wrestlers in the beginning, remember the first few UFCs...the USA got SMOKED!!!

GSP
FEDOR
Silva
Aldo
Gracie
Sakuraba
Rutten
McGregor
Khabib
Velazquez
Dos Santos
Rua

List goes on and on

Plus we're not talkin about exclusively the UFC we're talkin about MMA worldwide...

However UFC alone=
68 USA
30 international
Championships...

Nearly half of America's largest MMA championships have been dominated by non-americans that's some pretty amazing data!

And three out of five of the longest reigning ufc championships are Anderson Silva, GSP and Jose Aldo!

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_UFC_champions

Pretty sad performance considering we invented modern mix martial arts competition as it is known today!
How is Cain not American?

Okay if we talk strictly the UFC not MMA in general which is the title of this thread
the longest reigning champions in UFC history have been 3 out of 5....
#1 SILVA
#3 GSP
#4 ALDO

AND....
20% of ALL champions have been foreign

And in Combat Athletics overall...
Judo, Sambo, boxing, wrestling the USA is way down the list!

we don't see these kinds of number in other Sports America practically invented like football and basketball...only in COMBAT ATHLETES!!!

even though we have the biggest and best training facilities in the world it's ACCESS that's the problem ....in the United States only the privileged have access to high-quality mixed martial arts training...

in other countries even the poorest people have opportunities to train because the state supports them by running gyms with tax dollars instead of turning it exclusively into a for-profit business opportunity.

The real tragedy here is that even though we have PUBLIC TAX FUNDED facilities all over the country they won't allow MMA at those facilities due to risk management.

DESPITE the wild litigation culture and the sissification of our country I believe that Americans could be doing much better in combat athletics worldwide but our greatest future Champions are probably living somewhere in a ghetto or trailer park working part-time at Walmart and McDonald's and will never have an opportunity to learn high quality mixed martial arts because they have no access to those facilities!

I operated a FREE mix martial arts gym for 20 years ( until risk management kicked us out of the Parks Department) and I can tell you that 90% of our Fighters would never have had the chance to train had they had to pay a hundred plus dollars a month and drive across town in a good new car they didn't own plus take time off work 2 train five nights a week !!!

access is the problem your government takes your tax dollars and then denies mixed martial artists access to the facilities they built with your tax dollars!!!!

At Louisville MMA Fight Club we were saving boys lives.... we were keeping them off the streets... out of gangs and off drugs plus giving them an opportunity to better themselves in Combat Athletics not trying to score a good profit margin teaching martial arts for profit!

There's nothing wrong with teaching martial arts for profit but there is something wrong with your government denying you access to a facility they built and maintain with your tax dollars based solely on the sport you choose to participate in.... that's a crime!

That's moronic. We're not talking about who dominated MMA in the past, we're talking about who dominates MMA now. Every champ you listed is no longer champ and hasn't been a champ for years.

The original post suggested that USA MMA is going down the drain, when USA MMA has actually never been more dominant.

And yes, I'm talking about the UFC because the UFC is the premier MMA organization. Who cares who dominates second tier organizations? If I'm talking about soccer dominance, I'm not going to include American pro soccer clubs, which are second rate. I'd talk abou the premier league or La Liga.

If I'm talking about Football dominance, I'm going to talk about the NFL, not the CFL. Second tier orgs don't really matter.

Complaining about the government isn’t going to get you anywhere that’s classic beta mentality in my opinion. What your doing is noble, and you should continue. Find a way to keep it going, get some donations from churchs, run a go fund me campaign, ask facility owners to lend you free space for a good cause. Complaining about the government won’t get you too far.

FLW champ: American
BW champ: American
FW champ: American
WW champ: American
LHW champ: American
HW champ: American

Fergs is coming for that LW belt too.

Americans do NOT dominate the UFC

The fact is our lawsuit happy, risk-averse Society is removing Combat Sports from every possible public facility they can...including schools unlike other countries

you can blame the government, you should blame the government, it is your duty to blame the government for taking your tax dollars and denying you access to the facility your tax dollars support based solely on the sport you choose to participate in.

So who dominates the UFC now...

USA wins:
1 fly
2 feather
3 light

Foreign wins:
1 heavy
2 light heavy
3 middle
4 welter

Bantem= draw

Is my math "moronic"

You’re missing the point. We’re dominating the sport relative any other single country. You had to combine the rest of the world together.

True but considering that this is Americans LARGEST tournament they should dominate it.

Also please remember that some of the best athletes the world has ever seen came from poverty....poor people have ZERO ACCESS to quality martial arts training because in America its solely a business and CANNOT BE FOUND in PUBLIC facilities because your government will not allow it!

Your tax funded facilities are being controlled like they are a private business.

We are losing control of our public spaces.

We should as passionate about this as we are gun control but clearly we are not.

Threaten to ban us from owning a gun and all hell breaks loose stopping us from practicing martial arts in our public facilities and nobody seems to notice.

Not getting into all that lulz. On a different note, you’re in Louisville?

America does great at the Olympics and has the worst (i.e. essentially non-existent) state support in the entire world. Soon-to-be Olympic gold medalists work in Starbuck's to afford a place to live so they can train their asses off to rep their country. And despite having to concern themselves with paying the bills, they still kill it (especially) at the Summer Olympics every 4 years.

So no, lack of state support has never held back Americans from athletic excellence.
Dude. You must be kidding USA is top ten at worst in supporting their athletes. Do so research before you spew nonsense to internet. Other dumbies will parrot it after you as fact.
