Are Americans falling behind in MMA?

I think MMA has a very good chance of making it into the Olympics.

I originally called my gym a pankratIon club but it was too confusing

The fact is if pankration makes it back into the Olympics Americans are going to suck at it.... just the same way we suck at all the grappling and fighting Sports
It would be difficult to make MMA a point-awarding amateur sport.

I always thought that you could get away with a point system based primarily on Wrestling Judo and boxing.

Unless somebody Taps out there's always going to be some conjecture.

I'd say overall they should use the Striking system scoring for boxing basic wrestling and Judo points like control and take down and reversal and definitely score heavily your submissions and dominant positioning.

I remember once when I was judging a pro MMA fight the big wrestler who lost was angry with me and wanted to know why he lost since he was on top of the whole fight... I had to explain to him that he was caught in guard the whole fight and the BJJ guy had scored numerous near submissions on him whereas all he did was get one take down per round and then throw ineffective strikes.

Because the BJJ guy had no injuries and was never rocked but nearly submitted his guy seven or eight times I scored for the BJJ athlete

Scoring a catch (near submission) should be much more effective than Pitty Pat striking.

had the BJJ guy wobbled heavily and barely survived the strikes and came out bruised and bloodied it would have been a different story.

There are easier ways of making a living than getting the shit kicked out of you.

I earn more, as an IT project manager, than a sizable portion of the UFC roster. I also get a 401k, paid vacation, medical/dental/vision, and I don't get my ass beat if I have a bad day at the office.

Yeah I don't think it's about money, there's something the Japanese call bushido.

American used to have a version of bushido but today they're mostly cowards

I made more money in law enforcement but prefer zookeeping because it's a healthier environment.

America does great at the Olympics and has the worst (i.e. essentially non-existent) state support in the entire world. Soon-to-be Olympic gold medalists work in Starbuck's to afford a place to live so they can train their asses off to rep their country. And despite having to concern themselves with paying the bills, they still kill it (especially) at the Summer Olympics every 4 years.

So no, lack of state support has never held back Americans from athletic excellence.

you don t think that Murrca would get better results with better state support?

no, but your spelling is. everyone knows it is not "Bantemweight", it is "Batmanweight"...

Actually its bantamweight

If your career as a cartoonist spoof troll dosent take off perhaps you could teach english...in alabama

Murakins hate the guberment causa "taxes and reg-layshuns"
They want to be free!

The PUNCHLINE is they used to have combat sports training in this country at tax supported facilities like parks and schools but things have really softened up into their safespace.

Won't be long before they ban tackle football

yeah the most free country where the government investing in the people is seen as communism.

a country designed to be corporations' cuck.

To be fair, we used to use leaded gasoline, doctors smoked cigarettes while treating patients, cars didn't come equipped with seat belts, you could drive down the road with a beer can between your legs, and tackle football was played with leather helmets. As we acquire knowledge, change is inevitable.

Americans are SUPER GUILTY of propaganda, it was the greatest country on earth till Regan sold it to the corporations

It's been downhill every year since.

Combat sports training at public facilities is just a casualty of the corporate takeover of America

Excellent points, but when the taxpayer is denied access to a tax funded facility based solely on personal safety we have given up our freedom to the liability overloard.

Remember you can interchange the words CONTROL and PROTECT in any sentence and it still reads logically.

so the next time somebody says "for your protection"...
they may really mean
..."for your control"

Clearly my Batman joke went over your manlet head. That is ok - the joke was intended for sherdoggers with a much higher IQ than you, which is to say, about 50% of us.

TBF, America is, by design, a corporate heaven on many levels. It predates Reagan.

Brazilians just mad they don't have anymore champions left. I love Brazilian tears.

WTF? America is reknowned worldwide for the quality of its gyms and national support for sports. Like D1 Wrestling, I don't believe any other country has something like that, at least not in Europe where I live. And US Olympic Committeee receives plenty of funding from corporate sponsors regardless of the fact they don't receive any government support.

EDIT: Link.
And the corporations can write off their donations in reduced tax claims, so it's indirect funding by the state. That's how neo liberalism works i.e. govts conniving for corporations to run more and more of society.

They train for 2 weeks and realize this shit sucks. They can barely move after classes, then are told they need to diet and exercise outside as well. It's not sustainable for the average person.
No sport on elite level is suitable for the average person. It's simply not possible to have a day job and train like elite athletes at the same time. If you train as hard as elite athletes, your body needs lots of rest. You don't get enough rest if you also work 8hrs a day. You can do it for a couple of years. Then your body is shot, because you never gave it time to recover and heal.

All good points....

It's really a question of opportunity and access...

just like your tax dollars are used in funding public parks for sports like soccer football basketball and swimming I think it would be a better world if martial artists and combat athletes had equal access opportunity to these facilities.

We used to have youth boxing leagues in this country...

I don't expect us to treat martial arts the same way Thailand, Russia brazil and Japan do however it's clear that we are going in a very obvious Direction

We are more concerned about safety than ever before and while we can't stop people from doing dangerous things like parkour, base jumping and rock climbing it's pretty easy to stop them from participating in Combat Athletics because the type of facility required is easy to lockdown.

for other high-risk activities they are much harder to control because they don't require Mat space in a facility!

Also a major problem is privatization of public facilities whereas the government wasn't terribly concerned about you getting hurt in the Parks
(because you can't sue the government)
the new private owner of the formerly government-run facility can does and will discriminate against people they think put them in a higher liability bracket...like martial artists and combat athletes.
