Are Americans falling behind in MMA?

I just find it amusing when people refer to "mixed martial arts" as a style or form within itself. It is literally a combination of BJJ, wrestling , boxing and kickboxing. It is not a style. No one simply "trains MMA."

It's most certainly a style, the only reason to seperate it into diff categories is to sell more classes

Put on some mma gloves and grapple for position and just tap your guy when you settle from a scramble untill your ready to go light contact in all positions.

We use full vale tudo rules but only strike 10% in the gym.

You don't have to kill eachother.

Now your training MMA, light

Are French citizens falling behind in MMA? What about Scottish people?

Any event where a country pulls gold means there not shit at it, it means they have have the resources available for athletes to achieve the highest level of success the event.

We do ok...we should dominate, if we supported athletes and had some public facilities plus focused on olympic styles we would win

It seems to be that way. I mean, you have insanely focused people such as ice skaters, but they're training with privately financed coaches. There really isn't any federal or state support. Granted, there are a number of other things I'd like to see better financed in this country as well. ;D

Call me crazy...id rather have a gym than a war

Cage training is one thing, but all of the skills which play a part in MMA are honed in focused attention to those disciplines. Boxing and BJJ are not just a combined art. Also, most gyms really just want you to pay the monthly fee, so they really aren't selling individual classes - although that's an option.

Meh, being 4th in wrestling, while taking 1st overall in the Olympics by basically almost doubling the 2nd places medal count seems pretty good

yES!!! USAGASM!!!!

I agree with you. But I think in time mma will become more global and less US based. Which will mean there will be less top ranked US fighters and more top ranked fighters from many different nationalities. Kind of like how it is in boxing

And why is that a bad thing?

America will never fall behind with the help of steroids.

Cubans and Brazilians also.

Not everything needs to be an argument. You’re not very bright are you lol

So if you're not trying to argue a position one way or the other, why does it matter exactly how many current champions were born in the US? All that proves is that you can read Wikipedia.

Put yourself out there and have an opinion, and you'll look a little brighter yourself.

That might be the stupidest thing i’ve read all day. Thanks for your worthless advice

America does great at the Olympics and has the worst (i.e. essentially non-existent) state support in the entire world. Soon-to-be Olympic gold medalists work in Starbuck's to afford a place to live so they can train their asses off to rep their country. And despite having to concern themselves with paying the bills, they still kill it (especially) at the Summer Olympics every 4 years.

So no, lack of state support has never held back Americans from athletic excellence.
But free steroids
