Anyone seen this
I think of a film like Gremlins too (which, almost assuredly, was an inspiration to Arachnophobia) where it certainly had humor in it but it was largely a horror film. That's a classic and I don't think you see a lot of films like that with the fusing of genres these days.
It's a decent movie. Kind of a time capsule for that time period in movies. It was marketed poorly at the time, which I figured out as a 10-11 year old. They wanted it to be a comedy, but it really wasn't. It was a drama with comic relief and some horror elements. They even tried (and failed) to market it as a "Thrill-omedy." Major League was around the same time, and although it had far more comedy, it was still more of a drama with excessive comic relief. The way dudes act in comedies now, with the stuttering speech and weird ass fast talk dialogue.. It's fkn stupid and looks nothing like life. They look like bitches. I would prefer comedies like 'Major League' make a return.
As a 10 year old, it was a pure horror movie for me.
When I was even younger (5 or so) The Fly trailers scared the ABSOLUTE shit out of me. For some reason, the parts where it showed the Fly's hyper-vision in green and black were the most disturbing. Shit gave me nightmares.
I'm the opposite I try to protect spiders at all times
yeah similar vibe with Tremors too
Not a spider but I caught this and put it outside the house, thought it was an Asian hornet at first.

Shawn of the Dead did ok, and so did Zombieland etc...I think you could argue this along with Gremlins 2 was really one of the last horror comedies to make a significant impact at the box office, I spose Army of Darkness did ok but generally the genre ended up shifting towards increasing bad direct to video style releases.

Yeah good call.
Army of Darkness is a cult classic. I don't think it had that strong box office appeal in its day like those others did.
I think the New Batch is a great example. And it amped up the comedy/satire element more so than the first one. To me, the first is the better film though. I thought it had the perfect tone for what it was trying to accomplish.
There's a movie with Adam Scott and Toni Collette from a few years back called Krampus that supposedly goes for that same type of vibe. Haven't seen it but I'd wager it's worth a watch for anyone looking for that style of film.
I used to have this attitude but then a close friend of mine was bitten by a recluse hiding in his jacket. Had to get a large chunk of his flesh cut out...... Now if I see them in my house they die.I love spiders, I see them as allies where they feast on all the bugs in my place.
