Did you feel ripped off by Sylvester Stallones Judge Dredd?

did it catch on is OBVIOUSLY the proper grammar. Judge Dredd would have corrected me.

Stallone had the better helmet, Karl Urban had the better everything else

When it came out I thought it was fine tbh. Nothing special but I didn't dislike it. But I'd only read 2000AD/Dredd Comics like twice. I'm also quite generous when it comes to shitty 90's action flicks

Not really, it was a fairly fun cheesy 90s action movie and I like those kinda cyberpunk dystopia settings.

I don't understand why anyone would be like 'waah you see his face, that's not in the comics, worst movie ever, wahhh', what a weird thing to be such a massive dork about and treat like something that deserves the highest level of religious respect - a f00king comic

Dredd takes his helmet off in the comics sometimes too, it's just a running gag that you never ever see his face. In an live-action movie with Stallone™ as the lead of course you're gonna see his fucking face

So why the fuck make a judge dredd movie?
I can think of two main reasons to make a movie -
i) you have a massive drive to create a piece of enduring high art
ii) you want to try and make a lot of money

I think I can guess what the main motivation for making a Dredd movie (starring STALLONE) was
<VinceCa$h>

but word of mouth will quicky spread that it's in fact NOT a judge dredd movie, they're bluffing.

forget the helmet, he doesnt even wear a uniform for 90% of the movie

It's a cover of Sylvester Stallone in a Judge Dredd helmet pretending it's a judge dredd movie, when in fact he's in that costume for 20 mins and then the rest of the movie is a Stallone action flick.

To me this was one of the biggest marketing scams in movie history. I remember thinking even as a kid that this is immoral and switched it off.

How did you people see it?
Yes, I still lose sleep over it, sly owes me 6.50 and some popcorn.

Zero complaints except for his woman sidekick could have been hotter with bigger boobs.

In the movie, he was stripped of his status and banished, so can't blame him for not being in the costume 100% of the time.

I can't imagine anyone who grew up in the '90s feeling that way. I grew up loving this and Demolition Man. Two sci-fi action classics from Sly.

I was deeply disappointed. Visually, the film was a near perfect representation of the comic. From the Judges' uniforms to Mean Machine to Joe Pineapples, the ABC Warrior. Mega-City One itself and the Cursed Earth were also faithful recreations.

And then they had to ruin it by having Stallone remove the helmet less than 20 minutes into the movie.

For comic book nerds, this was as jarring as Batman deciding to pick up a gun and blow the Joker's fucking head off. Some things are such an integral part of a character that to go against them breaks the story itself. Dredd, in the comics never removes his helmet in sight of the audience. The only time people have seen his face, there's a caveat. For example the Dead Man storyline, in which Dredd's face has been so badly burned that it's impossible to make out any features.

Dredd in 2012 did it right. Urban keeps the helmet on throughout and there are no cheesy one-liners. It's a grim, violent, street-level story. The uniforms and equipment are much more grounded and realistic than the comic, and the story works much better as a result. Just a drokking shame it didn't make enough at the box office to earn a sequel. :(

I was really big into Dredd comics at the time, so as an adaptation, I was super disappointed by the film, but still enjoyed enough. I loved Demolition man, and the way things were going in films, I expected a gritter/darker film. It was way too campy and didn't feel like Dredd, while feeling like Dredd, if that makes sense.

Him taking off the helmet was least of its concerns, but now I want to watch it again lol

it felt like demolition man 2 or tango and cash after he got sentenced.
