Exactly. Just look at every single negative response to my thread, not one person who disagrees has put forth an actual counter argument to the topic itself, NOT ONE. Every single negative response is towards me personally, flaming, ridiculing and dismissing me as not worthy of a serious rebuttal for whatever reason. I wonder if they realize that by doing so they’re just further confirming my point.

I don’t wanna badmouth the Cubans, but unfortunately yes even as you walk along the nicer parts of the city you can smell urine from every corner. There is shit all over the streets too, but it’s mostly from the stray dogs that are running rampant everywhere, and there’s definitely garbage all over the place. They’re pretty strict about some things like putting your feet up on a park bench, but tossing your beer bottle or plastic bag wherever you feel like it and no one pays you any attention. It’s quite depressing, the people are very friendly and as a tourist you’re very unlikely to ever encounter violence so they’re pretty good at eliminating drugs and violent crimes, but in most things they’re very far behind the modern west sadly.

What happened was that there was a communist coup by 2 guys Taraki and Amin and their few supporters in the Afghan army in 1978. They killed the president and his whole family. Called the 'saur revolution' .

So people rebelled against them and they came down hard on people that rebelled. There was mass killings and arrests and this only further enraged the populace. Amin had Taraki smothered with a pillow (they were paranoid of each other's power) and the soviets felt he was going to buddy up with USA.

The Soviets tried to poison Amin multiple times (one time he survived because Russian doctors who werent in on it saved his life). The soviets sent in a spetnaz team dressed up as reporters and hundreds of other troops dressed as Afghan troops and some of the Afghan communist officers were in on it. They attacked the presidential palace and killed Amin and almost everyone in the palace. The new president babrak karmal made his instatement speech from Moscow and Soviet troops kept flooding into the country.

This gives absolutely no indication that you want to do anything but whine. Your opening post has nothing to do with the topic you claim to want to discuss "How socialism is better than capitalism". You have continued to cry and even added an edit crying more about how unfair the left is to you.

I guess you thought this would be a safe space for you to cry in? This thread is just trash and offered nothing to be discussed. If you want people to discuss socialism in Cuba, start another thread with clear thoughts on the issue. As far as I can tell every "liberal" responding to you in this thread has been on the topic given in the OP.

I read your thread and all of your replies. You definitely have a victim mentality. You just keep proving everything I have said about you. I dont got an issue talking about the topic you claim you want to discuss, you just failed to make a proper thread on that subject. Instead you made this thread. It has shown that you are exactly the same as the person you came to complain about.

I learned this first hand arguing with an extremely simple minded and confrontational acquaintance on Facebook once. She was one of those champagne Marxist constantly posting anti American, anti-western and anti capitalist sentiments, and one day I couldn’t help myself but reply to one of her public posts. So she began arguing with me how socialism gives people more dignity and capitalism was evil, and all that jazz... meanwhile Im here responding to her from Castro’s socialist Cuba where my wife and I just got back from waiting in line for cooking oil so I was really in the mood.

So it started off as very light sparring as I thought I might be able to offer her a different point of view without it getting personal, but unfortunately it quickly escalated into a heated exchange. I started completely dissecting her in every response to the point where I felt bad for her and said something like “I apologize if I’m being too harsh in presenting my argument”. I honestly felt that I had nothing to apologize for, but I could picture her crying as she was furiously typing her responses and I was really not looking to trigger or troll her at all, just point out that her views were oversimplified and that she was completely ignorant and out of touch with reality.

In her next response she accused me of being a sexist misogynistic racist white guy (despite race never being brought up once in the entire argument, despite my profile picture being of me with my mixed race wife and our mixed race child, and despite her herself being white and blond with blue eyes), and I never got a chance to respond because the next moment I was unfriended, blocked and her profile was forever hidden from me.

It’s not an exact comparison, but it reminded me a lot of the twitter outrage mobs that go after people who supposedly say or do something that doesn’t toe the line of the whole woke progressive agenda these days. The people that attempt to retract their statement or apologize in any way tend to get crucified and destroyed, whereas the people who just brush it off, don’t respond or just double down on their stance and “own it” (I fucken hate that expression lol) seem to fare much better.

It’s a really bizarre world we live in today where it seems that the only way to survive is either to
a.) just agree with the status quo
b.) keep your head down and say nothing, or
c.) go all in with the opposite argument with guns blazing

The option of trying to be the balanced voice of reason somewhere in the middle while trying not to offend anyone seems to be the worst one of all, despite the fact that to a normal person under normal circumstances this would be the most obvious and most sensible one. How did we get this way?

Edit: Yes I was stupid to engage in such an argument, I’m probably a terrible person, not even human, not deserving of a response, etc etc... Now to anyone with disagreements about the actual topic, anything to counter the topic itself, or just in the typical leftie style, personal insult, shouting down and attempting to silence different ideas?

If the person is self aware enough and open to dialogue,go for it but never apologize for your own opinion.
I had the same problem when I discussed with antigun individuals.
Most of the time,i say 95%,its always the same profile.
Very young,still in school at some level and are at least middle high class.
They don’t have everyday contact with the real world or they live in a country where you still can get some level of isolation from mundane violence.

When i say I actually came from a country were guns were banned 20 years ago and from that day everything just became waay worse they just don’t understand.
Or they say its just government incompetence and that would never happen in their own country.

They don’t listen and they don’t care about anything besides their own confirmation bias.

As we were driving across the country, we kept seeing all these partially constructed walls, buildings, random shit just dotting the landscape. Our driver explained that private business entities get financing to start these things, then embezzle most of it and never finish what they start. Just random walls containing nothing out in the middle of nowhere lol. One small example among an enormous system of fuckery.
