This is nothing against AOC but did you know her starting pay is 175k a year? Maybe the first thing we can start with is not paying our politicians wages of that of a celebrity or high ranking executive. Politicians should be civil servants making the same wages as the average citizen they are serving. You combine with that with making lobbying illegal and then maybe you'll only get people that care running.
I'd say she represents every caveat that I issued to Republicans who supported Trump throughout 2015 and 2016. AOC's rise is the precise unfolding of my predictive warnings. So I have finally got around to read and watch a little bit about Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. And my finding is she is essentially the Trump for Democrats. Here is why:
What say you, Sherdog?
- Like Trump, she is threatening the establishment of her party, but the voter base is enthusiastic. 74% of Democrats can imagine voting for her should she decide to run for President one day.
- Like Trump, she is triggering the media of the opposite spectrum massively. Just like Trump manages to generate outrage via deliberate provocations, the right-wing media seems obsessed with her. Also people seem to defend AOC's statements by saying you don't need to take them literally - like Trump supporters do.
- Both seem not to give fucks about the traditional political rulesets of their party regarding how to build a political career. And both don't care that their party establishment doesn't like them because they know the base does. Both also communicate with their base directly a lot.
- Both seem to profit from the trend that competence, experience and knowledge seems to count for less and less. While she doesn't lie to the obsessive extent that Trump does, AOC also is hardly very reliant on facts (and her supporters don't seem to care).
- Both Trump and AOC have shifted their party's political compass toward the extremes. Trump to the right, AOC to the left. The Republicans have become a nationalist, isolationist, xenophobic party under Trump. The Democrats are now actually discussing about 70 percent top income tax rate, abolishing ICE, and a radical green energy revolution (and tranny rights).
What is the right amount of aggressive, precisely? She's a little nutty, too aggressive, uses hyperbole, too far left. She is very much like Trump but not nearly as stupid, arrogant, corrupt, obvious, childish, temperamental, broadly offensive, lacking in character, and smug.
Progressives such as myself like AOC for the same reason we like Bernie and it's not because she is young hispanic or a woman--- its only the policy positions that matter to us.
Man, have some self respect...
Couldn’t have said it better. Sure, chances are, we can share many ideals, but coming off like an adolescent doesn’t help your case. I don’t even consider her radical, simply immature.
Find it hilarious that many in the war room think she’s the next best thing. She can definitely rally her base, but she’s missing major IQ points, I’m not talking a small amount either.

175k is the pay of a high ranking executive that's a new one on me. My niece just got out of college as a PA with a starting pay of 125k per year. 5 years she will be making over 180k per year.
Mid level technology executives where making over 150k per year not including bonuses or stock options. High level executives at EMC where I worked years ago were making between 750,000 to 1.4 million per year an sales executives were pulling down 500,000 to 2.5 million per year again not adding the stock option reward.
Do I think Congress an Senators are over paid yes but I did not hear a word from the right then 28 year old Paul Ryan making at the time what I guess 125k per year.
Yeah, $175k is nurse practicioner money.
And if you've ever met one, you'll know that they live quite comfortably. Which drives the point home about those making 10 or 100 times that being absurdly overpaid. But AOC is a Sarah Palin for saying this is fucked up.
If they earn less, like 25-50k a year, the argument is they'll be more easy to accept bribes and be corrupt. I mean they're still corrupt and accepting bribes and probably making millions off their careers, but that's one of the reasons they argue against having too low an income. This is nothing against AOC but did you know her starting pay is 175k a year? No, the trump of the left would be someone like Kanye West...
