A generalization I think fits more often than not

Ideally, you can beat 30 year olds while in your 20s, and you can beat 20 year olds while in your 30s.
If you're really special, you may still be able to beat both even while you're closing in on 40.

I get what he's saying though. Volk used a lot of his special up while running roughshoud over 145, Max couldn't beat him in 3 tries.
That's still hard to wrap my head around, and his 3 losses were to 2 of the current top 3 p4p'ers in the world.
But they were brutal stoppages. Volk managing to get that belt back is fucking S-rank shit, but every FW Goat was ruthlessly thrown from their peak by the next guy that made a good argument for Goat themselves.
Ilia moving to 55, forcing Volk to stay and deal with the next phase of the cycle is diabolical

Don't be surprised if Volk is more successful with his wrestling and TDs more to minimize the stand up threat. He did attempt 10+ TDs in fight one, but the execution wasn't there, I think he'll be better in that regard. They know Lopes is dangerous standing, I think he and his team are going to work hard on that to be better.

I feel they are opposite career trajectories but I wouldn't mind being wrong. But right now I feel Diego has all the grappling advantage and it will come down to striking once again

I think they want that Mexican demographic so badly, they're going all in on a Brazilian that trains with, and fights like other Mexicans.

They're fucking Movsar around almost as blatantly as Arman.
As a fan of Diego (personally speaking)
I think this gamble is a bit premature, going 0-2 in title fights to a champ that is nearing the end of his career would be a significantly bigger setback for DLs long term prospects this time around.

This should have been Murphy/Evloev vs Volk, and Diego getting the other guy in a number 1 contender fight

I wouldn't be surprised if Lopes chin went sooner than later, but other than that I am pretty worried for Volk. The mans getting up there in age has been slowing down his last fights. Still hope he wins and don't doubt he can but as time goes on this fight becomes more and more dangerous.

I was in the same boat and felt very frustrated that night, but it was one of those "I lost money, but at least it's because Volk won" not being screwed by judges or something.

This isn't a fight I'll be betting on. Volk was caught with only a few strikes in their last fight, but managed to win a dominant technical decision. Think I'll just enjoy the King of Australia's fights as they are from here on out

I agree. I was happy for volk to win because I like him. but I now know better than to bet against him

If volk'sconditioning is still what it used to be, then he should definitely look to get on top of lopes again. I think that's the safest area for him. Lopes has a great guard, but volk is a buzz saw on top.

I think Volkanovski hit Diego with punches that would've KTFO many other featherweights, he could grapple more and fight safer to win more comfortably. Volk's at the age where any night could be the night though, as other posters pointed out.

1st fight was not close. It was competitive but it was clear for Volk.

Rematch is like 50/50 for me. Lopes is always dangerous but he is not better than Volk
