I never know whether an event will be mediocre or not until I watch it. Some cards have top names and are an absolute letdown. Other cards are full of unknowns who put on a show to try and make a name for themselves.
The argument is that knockouts don't mean shit when it's over unknown low level fighters. The excitement for a card is measured beforehand, not when the fights are finished.I never know whether an event will be mediocre or not until I watch it. It's because the stakes are way higher on the Contender Series.12 fights, 8 decisions. It's interesting how you see fighters go for the finish so much harder on that Dana White Contender series, than what fighters actually go in the UFC these days.
5 minute rounds are awesome when you have exciting fights or people going for finishes, but when you get two fighters who want to coast, fight safe, or have a grueling fight with lots of stalling/stalemate positions, it drags on and is painful to watch.
You don't even actually watch MMAThat is most fights on most cards, 90% of this crap isn't worth watching anymore. They train for point scoring to not lose, the few who just bang from bell to bell are refreshing. Title fights aren't even must see anymore.
Love when violent strikers go on a tear of KOs. Then the mouth breathers are hollering, give him a wrestler to hump his leg 15 minutes
Yes I do agree that's a good explanation of why they fight for the finish on the contender series, I suppose I am just wondering why can't that fighting spirit and honour be replicated in the actual UFC. The UFC events ought to be more entertaining to the viewer, you would think, than the smaller budget feeder events for fighters to get into the UFC!It's because the stakes are way higher on the Contender Series.
They have to be entertaining to get signed (in theory)
Once they're in the UFC they have a contract that includes win bonuses. If they lose they get paid half as much.
It's that damn win bonus. It rewards playing it safe and winning the decision and punishes taking risks.Yes I do agree that's a good explanation of why they fight for the finish on the contender series, I suppose I am just wondering why can't that fighting spirit and honour be replicated in the actual UFC.
