Another horrendous fight night

This is what happens when UFC gets guaranteed money and just throws whatever warm bodies they can onto cheap events.
This. This times 1,000,000.

In the past the UFC had to put on exciting cards because the UFC's livelihood literally depended on it.
Now because of that sweet guaranteed ESPN money they can throw together BS cards filled with 1 known name, 1 recognizable name, 2 barely recognizable names and the rest of the card filled with unknowns who should be competing on the regional circuit not in the UFC.

I honestly think the ufc should review their monthly events … just do like in the 2000s and set up a big pay per view per month and maybe one fight night once in a while…
They literally can't do this. The UFC ISN'T in the ppv game anymore. They get GUARANTEED money from ESPN for each and every single event they put on. ESPN IS in the ppv business. ESPN pays the UFC and are left holding the bag if the event doesn't sell well or they reap the rewards if it sells better then expected.

I was playing poker and forgot a card was even on. I caught the main event but that was it. Seems like I should be happy about it I suppose. I almost never miss cards so when I randomly miss a shitty one that's fine.

This is the unfortunate truth. The guaranteed money with the demanding schedule has forced them to sign whoever they can.

Not sure if their schedule forces them to have 8 hour cards all around, but if not, I think they would benefit greatly from making the APEX cards 4-5 fights max like DWCS. That would help them not have to sign anybody and everybody as many of them are not UFC level fighters.
Less fighters on the roster and fighters, especially interesting ones, fighting more frequently, would really help with the entertainment value of their product.

I use to look forward to the fight nights because they would have up and comers fighting for their lives, but now fight night cards feel mainly like C level fighters on the chopping block. I literally am falling asleep as I watch these. These cards have been really bad lately.

5 minute rounds are awesome when you have exciting fights or people going for finishes, but when you get two fighters who want to coast, fight safe, or have a grueling fight with lots of stalling/stalemate positions, it drags on and is painful to watch.

Lazy matchmaking? Not enough incentives?

Happened to have the whole family (non mma fans) over this weekend for my sons Bday.

I had the fights on the 75 inch OLED, and almost the entire family watched most of the main card start to finish and said it was a lot of fun.

Its easy to be spoiled by big names like in the WWE, but the highest level of MMA may not be exciting to the people who used to watch Chuck bomb unanswered hooks into people.

Do people on here understand that it’s Apex card? It’s showcase night of fights for up and comers coming from the regionals, with usually 1 fight that has implications for a division. It’s not the UFC’s fault that fighters don’t perform or actually fight.

Reading some of the comments in here are baffling, no one here paid for it, you were not obligated to watch it, literally could’ve just turned it off and go about your night. I left it on as background media paid attention here and there whilst simultaneously tending the grill and browsing the PbP thread. Some people on here are just flat out haters and wants the UFC to fail so bad they put their faith in a lackluster Apex Card, clearly nothing will ever satisfy them as they called the sphere card and UFC 300 failures also.

UFC 300 was a great card but it was also a good way to point at the general dip in quality overall of UFC cards as of late, especially compared to ufc 100/200. It was a marquee event and it had Jamahal fucking Hill in the main event LOL.

I think it’s nostalgia on your end, UFC 100 was amazing at the time as it was the biggest event the UFC could put on given the limitations of their roster, UFC 200 was a great card with a shakeup that changed the main event from Jones/DC to………..Nunes vs Tate. Originally I think the UFC was going for the Jones vs Miocic bout, either he was going in for Surgery or it was too soon, but again given the limitations of their roster the UFC delivered on 300 across the board from top to bottom. 300 was considered a failure by the UFC haters before it even occurred tells all you need to know. I didn’t see a dip in quality from 300. It’s arguably the greatest MMA event ever.

Also, the dip in quality is self inflicted by the MMA fans and or UFC haters. Anytime the UFC pushes a fighter towards stardom, what does everyone do? Shit on them, bring them down, find every which way to diminish their careers. Anytime a fighter organically becomes a star like Alex Pereira, moment he losses he was never test good, he was never a star. Let’s be honest here, the only true superstar in MMA is Conor Mcgregor and no fighter will probably ever reach or match his peak, but that does not mean they aren’t stars.

Emmett vs Murphy would have been a great 2nd or 3rd fight on a good PPV. Yet we were forced to sit through a god awfully slow card to get there.
I'm gonna have to go ahead and um, disagree with you here

Emmett is an aged overhand thrower. Murphy is a boring tactical fighter hell bent on winning at all costs. No I don't want to spend $80 to watch them

These fight nights should add some spice, like 2vs2, let them bang.

They hold these in the apex so that people watching in TV can't hear the crowds booing for 80% of those cards.
