When he stood his ground Ank met him with a nasty teep kick almost every time. I think it’s just Pereiras time. It’s a shame that Ankalaev couldn’t be magnanimous in victory, the way Pereira has been to most of his opponents

Is normal from eastern fighters

He tried the same thing with Jan (grappling and using control the last 2 rounds), and it almost blew up in his face again
 
The other thing is conditioning. Ankalaev was hardly breathing whereas Alex was looking increasingly fatigued.

Eh, no. He def had him backing up, but I wouldnt call what was going on running, and preventing you from working is the point, so thats a weak thing to say. While being more aggressive, and arguably landing the bigger shots, Ank seems to not know 'what to do next' outside of that. He couldnt get a take down .. and honestly alot of those takedowns look half hearted, like he knew it wasnt going to happen. I dont know. Both fighters without a doubt with timid in different ways and the fight was what it was.

The guy hugging the last 2 rounds was the guy who was outstriking Alex in the first 3.

He's a better striker AND hugger than Alex. Don't tell Alex's girlfriend or Ank will take her too.
 
Ank is boring. And Alex fought tentatively and that added to the boring nature of the fight.

Ank needs to decide what he cares about. Dude is defensively sound, well rounded, and obviously an elite talent. If that's good enough, then just own it. Tell everyone that your job is to win and that's pretty much all you do. He will find some finishes along the way just because of his talent and the law of averages but his style is never gonna be fan friendly. Merab isn't a finisher either and some call him boring but his insane cardio allows him to pour it on late and be a showman when he feels his opponent wilting. Ank doesn't have that luxury, he's just gonna be what he is.

Or he can decide being exciting is more important and take more chances. That will leave him open to getting caught more of course, so he can decide if that risk is worth it.

When it comes to fighting Merab is definitely more boring than Ankalaev, he’s won plenty of fights doing nothing more than what Magomed did to Pereira those last two rounds. Ankalaev at least has something to offer on the feet. But Merab kisses his opponents so a bunch of goobers think he’s awesome.
 
Alex clearly fought like he wanted to avoid the TD at all costs

And it cost him the decision loss

Whats funny, at the end of one of those rounds, when the bell rang, Alex actually “tripped” Ank and threw him to the ground. It was a slick foot-sweep from clinch
 
Alex made this boring with his cowardly approach.
Did nothing but run for 25 minutes
 
pereira made this fight extra boring, doesn't mean ankalaev isn't a boring fighter, but in this case he was the less boring of the two
