Am I the only one who thinks Alexa Grasso got lucky?

There is video of her training exactly that same technique. That was great coaching, training, and extremely impressive execution for her to recognize the situation in the fight and execute it flawlessly.

Not only did it have nothing to do with luck, it changed the sport forever making strikers strongly question the use of spinning techniques going forward.

She hit Valentina clean in a couple of exchanges in the first round.

Other than she was losing the whole fight (at stand-up too) after that until thay damn failed spinning back kick from Valentina.

She was only winning 1 round, the first one and even that round was very close, I would give it to her only because she got Valentina clean a couple of times.

I don't want to take anything away from Grasso tho, she got a lot of heart and she is tough, she brought the fight to Valentina and she wasn't scared like a lot of other girls but I just feel she got lucky with that finish, am I the only one thinking that way?

With that being said I think she is losing the rematch

I’m not gonna read this, Valentina has been getting slower, Grasso showed good enough boxing, Valentina thought she could be cute with her takedowns someone used bjj and showed they weren’t there to play , the hungry get fed

Her team noticed a tendency in Shev that they identified as an opportunity and drilled Alexa for MONTHS on how to take advantage of it. I wouldn't call that luck. But unfortunately for her in a rematch it's a tendency that's ridiculously easy for Shev to eliminate from her game.

Thing is for Shev that old habits die hard. She sticks with generally the same game plans with a few key moves.

I wouldn't say 'lucky' but definitely fortunate. Both women were so classy after this fight I don't understand why the fans have been so nasty.

the other posters here and going too far the other way by claiming she specifically game planned this to beat Val.

She seized on the opportunity as it presented. Any high level mma fighter practices counters to common moves, spinning back kick .

Grasso’s team studied Valentina VERY well. It;s evident in several things Grasso did in the fight. There’s even footage of her backstage before the fight practicing the takedown off the spinning kick.

to say that the move wasn’t planned to be the finishing sequence is one thing, but to say she didn’t plan that specifica attack? That’s just denying reality.
