He still looks great - pause - and still looks like he has that hunger for more knowledge despite his body aging.

He's definitely on the Mount Rushmore of MMA, and can be in the argument for GOAT. Also, unlike the other GOAT candidates like Fedor and Anderson (and soon possibly Jon Jones), GSP retired on up on his own accord with his brain cells intact

He still wanted to fight he was just stuck with UFC's contract. So he just stayed retired instead. He wanted to fight Khabib and he wanted to fight De La Hoya. UFC wouldn't do the Khabib vs GSP fight even though they both wanted it and they wouldn't allow him to box De La Hoya. GSP retiring was more of a power move than anything else, he still wanted to fight that's why he was still always training. Contractually he was just stuck.

The thing about Hendo is that he never had a sustained run of dominance. He does had one of the best win lists and is one of the most decorated so perhaps you could put him on that tier.

The one guy I did forget was Nog. He should be on that 2nd tier for sure.

Well Nog had a 22-2 run in Pride with his only losses being against Fedor. He then stretched it to 25-3 having avenged that 3rd loss against Barnett. During that entire stretch he beat 13 or 14 top 10 HWs. He won the Pride HW belt and the UFC Interim belt. Id say thats won of the better runs youre ever going to see in MMA.

No, he didn't. Sometimes people really only mean what they say and there's nothing more to it.

There are different ways to look at this. Werdum beat Fedor, but Fedor had a better run. He really could just be pointing out Werdum's accomplishments and could merely be suggesting that he should at least be mentioned.
