If Jones defeats Francis and defends the HW belt against a top 5 contender (eg Aspinall or Curtis) I would have him as #1 P4P.

Fedor fought the bulk of his career in Pride though, where whether he used something or not the playing field was even because it wasn't against the rules to begin with. He wouldn't have been cheating and his competitors were in the same situation as he was.

And when Fedor fought in tested MMA orgs as well as the tested sambo competitions he took part in throughout his career he never once popped, including the Affliction event where Barnett did and their fight was scrapped.

Jones's achievements took place in the UFC where ped use is banned and so it's an unfair advantage.
 
I have an issue with calling anyone who has popped for PEDs numerous times the GOAT. And yes, unfortunately this includes Anderson Silva as well. :(

At least Anderson only started popping when he was past him prime following a brutal injury but still... it brings up questions.

Anyway i think the big names got some protection since people pay to view them.

Let's say Conor cheats, he has a better chance to get some tolerance compared to Leon Edwards for instance.

Fedor has called Aleks out directly for cheating, it’s known. “Shortcuts in his training regimen,” I believe Fedor called it. So why didn’t Aleks just blast Fedor back and accuse him of the same thing? Why has no opponent, no training partner, no former friend, ever made a serious accusation of Fedor doping? Fedor states he’s always been a clean athlete and he’s never given anyone a reason to doubt that. No ridiculous physique; an impressive athlete to be sure but nothing out of the realm of what’s naturally achievable. Barnett popped in Afflcition but Fedor never did. Even now in Bellator; when they go overseas, the Mohegan Sun commission oversees it, and they just busted a fighter during an overseas event last month. Yet Fedor continues to pass tests, both in places like Tokyo and Moscow but also Chicago, LA, NJ and NY.

I imagine Fedor will get surpassed as GOAT someday. And sure, Jones has a great resume of names. It’s a shame that his whole career is checkered with cheating, he maybe could’ve been GOAT. I don’t need to “protect” Fedor. Jones is 26-1-1 with the lone loss being bullshit? Fedor’s been there too (except Fedor’s NC wasn’t due to a PED failure like Jones). Fedor was 31-1-1 going into that Werdum fight. On the one hand, Jones doesn’t have circus fights thrown in like Fedor did. On the other hand, Fedor did shit like fight Ogawa and Big Nog on the same night, and in tournament formats, which Jones has never done. Fedor’s got just as many UFC champs’ heads on his wall asJones does, and Fedor never even fought in the org. And Fedor did this all in a weight class than Jones, despite his size/reach/physical advantages, has “teased” fighting in for a decade while never following through. To me, Fedor is GOAT. And if he isn’t, then GSP is.

This thread-title is just so silly.

Denying Jon Jones is the GOAT? Like there is some concencus that Jon Jones is the GOAT.

He was a great fighter and had a good run. But him popping for PED's multiple times keeps him out of any GOAT-conversation. And don't come with that "everybody does PED"-argument because he failed drug tests multiple times and people deserving to be in the conversation for GOAT did not. Still in my opinion he would have needed to fight at HW and be succesful there to be in the conversation, even if he hadn't popped for PEDs.

Great fighter tho when he were in his prime, i don't deny that.

Who do you consider an "authority" for jones? Every UFC fighter goes through testing but do you consider it just bad luck that jones keeps failing? Show me how you rationalize that and I will show you a man who can rationalize that his girlfriend just happened to "fall asleep" at her friend's house while leaving her phone on silent, forgot to call him the until the next day and got pregnant even though they haven't had sex in over a year because it happened on "The Jerry Springer Show" once...

95 % of those viewers are noobs in the sport, 85 % probably doesn't even know who Fedor is.

I know Jon Jones use to be mention as one of the greatest MMA-fighters of all time. Thing is you have to consider that his greatness is having this asterisk on it because of his PED-abuse. That is why i don't think he should be in the conversation for GOAT.

Fine, then you should not speak about Pride fighters : fighting in an organization without drug testing is even a bigger asterix <GOT2>
