Movies Alien vs Aliens

Alien by far.

Aliens is good but it's a typical sequel. Take the most exciting parts of the first movie and spam the entire second movie with it. Usually makes for an entertaining movie but it loses the heart and build up of the original.

How did it spam the movie with it? I think there was one chest burster in Aliens. I think there was one scene trying to fight off facehuggers.

Aliens. Probably my favourite movie ever.

Am I a sinner if I haven’t seen either?

I meant it as in more action. It was fewer and farther between in the first one because they built up to it.

I wouldn't be surprised if it's fairly comparable how far into the movie it is before the Alien action begins in both movies. It's definitely more balls to the wall once that point is reached in Aliens, but there's quite a bit of build up in Aliens as well. The movie has been going on and the characters developing for quite a while by the time they find that woman cocooned and the ambush happens.

I like them both equally, though I'd argue Alien was the superior film. Like the first two Terminator films, the first is horror sci-fi and the second installment is a action sci-fi, two different films.

On an unrelated note, Bill Paxton is the only man in cinematic history to be killed by The Predator, a Xenomoprh and a Terminator, RIP.

Lance Henriksen got wasted by all three as well.

love both equally.

tho i want to kill that dude always crying game over man game over in aliens lol

I tend to agree with people who are saying that Alien is technically better, while Aliens is great for it's wider appeal. I remember my friends and I being seriously stoked for the release of Aliens when we were in elementary school (I think). The video game was awesome too. I can't even describe the terror and joy of fighting off pixelated aliens with the pew pew guns from the movie (you know what I mean, you goofs). Loved both of them, but it took me until I got older to appreciate Alien properly.

The fact that he inspired revulsion in you for his feigned cowardice means he is an excellent support actor, and he did his job well by provoking you to emotion, which is what art does (it fucks with your head).

Definitely Alien.

Maybe I need to rewatch the sequel. I haven’t seen it in ages but I don’t remember it being this masterpiece everyone drums it up to be on sherdog. I just remember it being a fun action flick

Bill Paxton was great in that movie with a pretty complicated arc, from naive bravado to cracking under pressure to redeeming himself and going out heroically. I would guess that in the end Hudson's actions were probably Silver Star worthy or something along those lines.

I slightly prefer Alien. I love the pacing.

Probably Aliens

Both are great for different reasons and both had a character I utterly hated. But I hated Lambert most so Aliens wins for the having the lesser annoyance.

I'd way rather have a beer with Lambert than Burke.

I didn't mind Burke, the sleazy asshole character is predictable enough. Lambert was just an over emotional mess with no self control that got Dallas killed.

Aliens has also given us all the best reference to use in response to being asked 'Any questions?' at work.

There's a fellow 80's dork in my office, and it's always the highlight of the day when one of us mutters by way of reply 'How do I get out of this chickenshit outfit?'

(neither of us are happy in our job ... )

I can't choose.
Alien is pure art. Almost any frame could be a movie poster.
Aliens is pure badass action. Maybe most quotable movie of all time.

Aliens is more exciting but Alien has the better style.
