He's getting people talking about him though even if it is cringe. That was my take. I was impressed at his movement and pace for a big guy. But yea, he seems like a jackass and his shtick isn't helping him IMO.
He's a good fighter, and a huge douche.
His shtick is the only reason he's even talked about, as cringey as unoriginal as it is.That was my take. I was impressed at his movement and pace for a big guy. But yea, he seems like a jackass and his shtick isn't helping him IMO.
I agree with the sentiment that watching the "well rounded" fighters ends up with some boring fights. Those are some great ideas, but I think the UFC actually did try to do that with Robelis Despaigne. Matched him up with Waldo and Lane, yet still was grinded out. As soon as he was released he became KO machine in karate combat.interesting, sorta.
if i'm the UFC i'm going back to the roots of hiring.
one trick ponys who look the part, specialize in an area, and just let it happen.
ONE got some characters with that reug reug guy. russian HW champ, they need to go for a more Street Fighter 2 approach.
trying to find some specialist who just 5%s in all the areas is boring.
find unique talented specialists from the corners of the third world.
swipe the one or two other legit HWs from other orgs.
sign some GLORY fighters, give them stand up matches.
etc, etc
i think it's the 5% well roundedness fighters, they should be cut.I agree with the sentiment that watching the "well rounded" fighters ends up with some boring fights. The issue is the bad HWs are still well rounded enough to exploit any of the elite specialists. I don't think they can capture strikers like Pereira, get them converted as quickly as he was. Probably wrestlers like Gable are best for transferring over. Don't know why HW is so difficult for strikers.
MMA moved past specialists because they all get beaten up eventually. Paul Craig is the last example I can think of who did semi-well and he ended his career on a losing streak.i think it's the 5% well roundedness fighters, they should be cut.
hire only 100% specialists, like the 90s again.
pure strikers, pure wrestlers, a bjj guy, hapkido, etc.
modern era HW has been terrible with these well rounded game plan types. it's not the art of fighting.
i'm aware. i'm saying hire the specialists anyways because the current product sucks. 5%ers everywhere makes for the worst fights ever.MMA moved past specialists because they all get beaten up eventually. That other poster mentioned Robelis and he is a perfect example. Couldn't grapple for shit, got cut and now he is doing well in Karate Combat.
The 90s era isn't ever coming back. Knowledge has advanced too much. That's the art of fighting right there; knowledge building skill. But the UFC needs to cut its roster by at least 100 fighters. There is just too much going on and it's hard to keep up with all the fighters
