I appreciate that they at least tried to make it look like an Alien movie. That being said, the story was pretty shite. Action was meh. Horror was meh. There was certainly a lot of gross-out moments, but other than that....meh. And why does the cast look they just graduated high school? Why does Hollywood insist on casting so young? It's not realistic.

Way too much CGI. So many effects that could have been done practically were done as CGI, and a lot of it didn't look great. CGI facehuggers looked like shit. The CGI xenos looked like shit.

The Ash look alike, the CGI'd face.....

....was some of the worst CGI I've seen in years. It looked atrocious.

The last 1/3rd of the movie had me like:

I hate the damn dogshit prometheus movies. They are an insult to the Alien franchise. Why the fuck did they include the black goo and what was basically a fucked up alien/engineer hybrid??? Ugh, they need to ignore those atrocious dogshit movies outright and pretend like they don't exist.

It also doesn't make sense how this movie takes place AFTER Alien, and there's still the black goo bullshit and the engineer. Why?? That shit wasn't in Alien. It wasn't in Aliens. It wasn't in Alien 3. It wasn't in Alien 4. It wasn't in AvP. WHAT THE FUCK.

The callbacks were godawful and WAY too on the nose. It reminded me of the dreadful Blumhouse Halloween movies. Cringe at its most painful.

As a big fan of Alien/Aliens/Alien Isolation....... this started to get things back on track, but then fucked the track altogether. 3.5/10 at best, and I'm being way too generous at that.

Ended up leaving the theater like:

Bottom line: Fuck this movie.

Does the Alien still look like a big penis? I want to know because if the Aliens went all woke and looks like big flappy vaginas, well I just couldn't handle that shit. I don't need to see a big, wet, flappy, menstruating vagina creature hunting people down and adding to my nightmare fuel.

Don't worry it is still BBC

Wasn't a fan

there was no need for ash/rook/Ian holm. Pointless fan service. Just let actors fucking die Jesus. Really pissed me off story wise it doesn't

.in general there was way to much fan service . " Get away from her you bitch" etc

. Wtf was with the Groth rate of the Xenomorph. The asian chick bearly had the face hugger on her then the embryo births within no time. Then the fucking full size alien is cooked and ready to go in no time.

.I'm probably in the minority here because I think aliens introduced some really annoying Xenomorph law. With that said having Xenomorphs run straight into gunfire makes them come off as retarded not the perfect organism, animals know better than that.it takes away all the horror of them imo

. The remaking basically of the end of resurrection with the balck goo newborn mark 2 down to how it died. The newborn was in resurrection was a far better creature design

. Autistic android annoyed me

Vagina when cocooned. Penis on its final form.

Alien Isolation is 10x the movie script compared to that. Its a generic slasher with a pasted on Alien theme. Exactly the same MO. Some dumb cringey teenagers
bringing themselves into stupid and dangerous situations getting killed one by one. The puppets 30 years ago looked way better than this CGI stuff.

My ranking would be:
  1. Alien
  2. Aliens
  3. Alien 3 (assembly cut)
  4. Romulus/Prometheus tie
  5. Resurrection
  6. Covenant
There would be a wide gap between the first two and the rest, tho.
Also, If I'm hard pressed, maybe I would lean towards Prometheus being a bit better than Romulus, even with its million flaws, for at least trying to go for its own spin, while Romulus picked "The force awakens" path instead.
Is Alien 3 in that cut really that much better? The cinematic cut is , for me , just a horrible boring ego project of Weaver focusing all the attention on herself and it damages the movie a lot.

Yeah, it's def a huge improvement.

I see a lot of people complaining about too much cgi and I'm actually surprised about this criticism because out of all the recent sci-fi big budget movies this one might be the one with the best ratio practical/cgi effects, by far. There are miniatures, real sets with tons of extras, suits, animatronics,...
I however can agree that some particular cgi effects here were really bad (rook mainly)

Tech could be easier to handle than tech from back than.
So you would send some kids into space because "tech is easier to handle" <lmao> Should tell that to NASA astronauts.(its not about handling tech, its about understanding it to its most basic level to be able to repair it)

Problem with teenagers (and these actors basically are teenagers or act like that) is that it takes away all the serious implications that would create an athmosphere outside of a slasher movie.
If its just some angst teeniees thats what the movie will feel like and thats very much not what alien was about at all. A teenager loosing control of a situation is expected. Something completely different then Dallas feeling the same. His realisation for what he was in for was a fantastic moment in the original. Add to that the subpar acting by them. Just look at the cast of Alien 1: John Hurt, Tom Skerrit , Ian Holm, Cartwright. Their superb acting was a huge part of the deep athmosphere created.

gems like that could still be done just not in Hollywood with its focus on DEI hires and corporate generic cash cows.

They act like current teens. Okay, in that case i wrote nothing.

I am sure Scott controlled the project with little DEI bs. Blame Scott, Alvarez can make a movie.

I’ve noticed this trend of casting people who look incredibly young. I’m wondering if actors in general just look a lot younger than they used to? I do agree with you that it kind of makes it harder to suspend belief.

Let down. Atmosphere was good, got the claustrophobic nature of an Alien movie right. Visuals were really good

Terrible story and acting.

I saw it last night and was severely disappointed. The horror was definitely ramped up, but the jump scares were lame and not scary.

The biggest problem was the characters. None of them were memorable or even likable, especially Andy.

Also the ending was terrible and way too familiar. Not sure how this movie has such a high rating.

even rotten tomatoes is bought out with the ratings these days. Had a longer post how nowadays disney etc manipulate ratings.

I know it's all opinions yada yada but I think the people complaining about the CGI outside of Rook are seeing phantoms. The effects were the highlight of the movie and there were loads of practical effects so I've no idea what they're talking about. The sound and special effects were absolutely masterful. I'd go so far as to say that it's an objectively bad complaint.
