There would be a wide gap between the first two and the rest, tho.
Also, If I'm hard pressed, maybe I would lean towards Prometheus being a bit better than Romulus, even with its million flaws, for at least trying to go for its own spin, while Romulus picked "The force awakens" path instead.
Great set design, solid actions sequences and special effects were mostly pretty solid, sharp sound however the casting was terrible, none of them were memorable and they all weren't convincing at all, far too young to be a crew operating a ship.
A lot of it seemed cliched, a lot of the dialogue and scenes were direct rip off's from prior entries, overall it was a respectable addition to the franchise.

It’s apparently the impossible to write an Alien movie that doesn’t rely entirely on every character making nonsensical decisions.
I did enjoy the aesthetic and there were a few decent jumpscares, but far too many head scratching moments to keep the plot moving, and the last 20 minutes of the film were downright bad.
5/10
Middle of the pack Alien movie. I’d rank it behind 1, 2, and Resurection.
-Since when are xenomorphs afraid of guns?
-Bringing back Ian Holm felt unnecessary, and the deepfake was terrible. It was looked like something out of Polar Express.
-The long boy human alien thing was silly. The film would have been better off with the main character and the other girl going into cryosleep. Knowing that the girl was pregnant and had taken the black goo would have been a solid cliffhanger.
RE: Guns. In Aliens theyd back off if they took too many casualties. So I figure it depends on how many numbers they have.
Also, just wondering what decisions you mean?
The thing is, I actually liked a lot about how that last conflict was shot. How it resolved, the camera shots, etc. But the whole set up and enemy were so stupid.
My take. They could have honestly just made it another Xeno that survived, do pretty much the same thing it would have been 1,000 times better. Im pretty done with the whole trope of someone taking an injection and within an hour their entire molecular structure is changed.
But anyway, I think theres an even better idea that would require minimal change overall:
First you set up that theres one Xeno thats kind of smarter than all the rest. It has to have some sort of physical characteristic to make it identifiable.
Then you can pretty much do almost everything the same. Except that final shot at the end of the conflict where both of their faces are against each other in the vacuum of space she notices that THAT Xeno is the one with the grappling hook still lodged in it.
Boom. The movie is 100 times better now.
The first two movies don't rely on that, nor the third meow that I think of it. Agree with your spoilers but Resurrection being ahead of Romulus... oof.

They decide going down the scary alien path is a bad idea and they need another path, then the guy hears the pregnant girl and just runs in there like an idiot to his death (so that the pregnant girl can come back and give birth to long boy later).
Then the main girl finally gets on the elevator to safety, but for some stupid reason decides to go back to save the autistic robot (so she can have a first person shooter moment where she shoots all the aliens that are no longer afraid of guns for some reason).
The only reasonable character was the girl who got facehuggered, then immediately decided to get the fuck out of there at the expense of everyone else.
I also don’t even understand why that space station is just left alone in the first place. Considering its importance, you would think Weyland Corp would either intentionally destroy it, or have some mission to salvage it. They just let it float around and wait for it to hit the rings. Then when it gets boarded, no one is notified? The mining colony doesn’t monitor it or respond? Seems kind of lazy.

Resurrection at least had Sigourney Weaver, and her performance was great. Ron Pearlman’s character was also a good.
No doubt it’s a stupid movie, but it fully leans into the weird premise and has plenty of memorable scenes.
I liked their performances, plus Wynona's and CSI guy's but holy fuck, that movie is rough lol. Hands down better characters though, the characters in Romulus I largely didn't give a shit about except for two and one of the others I was outright rooting for to die.
I won't squabble about opinions too much here but I guess for me, despite its flaws, Romulus took itself seriously and kept me engaged and it was tense, the camp level of Resurrection was way too much for me, I couldn't take it seriously.
I liked that they turned off the gravity to deal with the aliens, that's something I've thought about before.
As an aside, I did like that Resurrection showed the xenos swimming. That hasn't been done before or since and the thought of those things swimming after you is fucking terrifying.

I may have read in a book that one of the early concepts for Alien 3, the one with the monks, had an aquatic alien.
Speaking of Alien 3, it seems that the creative direction was influenced by "The Name of the Rose." I'm not recommending that film btw, which also casts Ron Pearlman. But Sean Connery's performance was outstanding.

I like the idea of monks and an aquatic alien. I think that would've made for a good switch up, it needed to differentiate itself more from the first two in my opinion.
I watched a trailer for that, it actually looks interesting and I can see elements of it in the Alien 3 we got.
I recognized F. Murray Abraham and looked up his movies, and sure enough he was in Star Trek Insurrection.

Massive disagree on Resurrection being better than Romulus, did we watch the same movies? And with regards to your spoilers,
Right, the guy ran after his pregnant girlfriend because she was his pregnant girlfriend. I don't see what's unbelievable about this situation, especially since they were on a time crunch and likely would not have found another route before colliding with the rings.
It's established very early in the movie that the girl views the android as family. She initially leaves but decides to go back and rescue him for that reason. Once again, I don't really see a problem with this scenario.
I think most of the characters acted fairly realistically. Some poor decision making can be forgiven since they are young and desperate to get off the hell hole they currently live in. The only big issue I can think of is the pregnant girl injecting herself with the goo. I get maybe she was afraid of dying, buy she was just minutes away from the cryo pods that she was trying to get to.
I'm not sure if they specifically say how much time has passed since the station was destroyed. It could be that WY simply hadn't received word about what happened, or maybe they did and decided to let it continue it's trajectory towards destruction knowing they couldn't salvage it in time. The mining colony maybe knew but didn't care or didn't want to risk losing more workers trying to salvage the ship.

lol oops, my bad you're right. Still, the point remains the same in that it makes sense why he would make a rash decision given the situation they were in
I'm comparing it directly previous entrees in the franchise. The crew on Alien ranged from 30 years to early 50's, all the marines in Aliens were late 20's through to 40's and even the later installments it was more or less the same. A crew of only early to mid 20 year olds is completely out of place in the franchise.

If i make a movie franchise about a supermarket staff is it weird if in movie six the whole staff is in his 20s while in most movies everyone was in his 40s?
