Do you think Ankalaev has it more than likely? The wrestling seems to be so much of an issue... I don't know. It's interesting. But Ankalaev is in the favorite on betting odds the only one of a list of potential guys, like if Poatan faced DDP at middleweight, he was still given as the favourite, as vs everyone in LHW including even his first fight vs Jiri, he was the favourite. Do you think the wrestling will be too tough for Alex and will make that a fairly likely win for Ankalaev?

Poatan has the power to end this early but it wouldn't hurt him to be getting a good sprawl down and to be working on his back to the fence and posting back up and breaking away.

Go watch Ankalaev's last 10 fights and see how often he uses his wrestling. It's really not very often. Magomed is a striker firstly and a wrestler as his fallback option. It's not easy for a big man of his size to effectively wrestle for a full 5 rounds anyway. I'm also going to point out he has 0 submissions in his career so that's almost a non-threat.

Exciting super active champ vs boring inactive diva.

His only chance is to crotch sniff and bore the arena to tears. I get that the guy is good and on a hot streak but dude shits the bed every single time he enters the octagon and I quote frankly couldn't give less a fuck whether I see him fight again or not.

Hope Poatan sends him to the shadow realm so I never have to watch him stink up a main event slot again lol

Ank can wrestle but he is going to strike first. His head coach is a MT guy. I honestly don't know how good Alex is on the ground now. The most recently grappling footage of him in Korea tells us that he is sort of a top game guy like glover. He did submit Doo Ho Choi while rolling.

If Ank doesn't actually use mixed martial arts and becomes a K1 fighter he deserves to lose

I would have more of a concern if Ank was more of a grappler. I think Alex knocks the shit out of him during the championship rounds, wins by KO.

Yeah but none of them had a so dangerous striking like Poatan, so he could rely on his striking. Against Alex, he knows his main advantage is wrestling, so ofc he'll use wrestling way more.

I think you underestimate Magomed's ego. He's already stated he intends on striking with Alex. This could be deception, but I don't think so in this case. He actually will stand with Alex, and honestly his chances of getting a KO isn't all that bad.

Well, I want for the best to win. If he is in fact better than Alex Poatan, then I prefer seeing him than a more active fighter that is not the best (just hypothetically, idk who is better). After all, what matters is who is better.

Didn't Ankalaev say he doesn't intend to wrestle him?
Just playing mind games. Maybe expecting Alex would worry less about defense by saying that... He isn't dumb

He's just playing mind games lol. What he says and what he does are different things. Maybe he expects to make Alex less worried about takedown defense.

As I've said, if you watch his fights you'll see that he's a striker first. That's what he likes to do. This is why he has 10 wins by KO. This is what he says he will do.

Vs guys who weren't as good as Alex Pereira. He got out striked but Jan and needed his wrestling to win... Alex Pereira almost KO's Jan, Jan went on full wrestling mode... So it makes no sense for him not to use wrestling vs a way better striker than Jan who was already getting the best of him in striking

The reason it makes sense to not use wrestling so much is what I said in my first response. It's not easy for a big man his size to wrestle for a full 5 rounds. It's just very taxing on the cardio, so much that it's just easier to strike and have wrestling as a backup option.

Pereira has a chance but I don't think it's very good. Apparently Ankalaev is so serious about this fight that he's willing to fight in March, during Ramadan. I'll honestly be impressed if he does that.

Which can lead to a quick KO vs Alex... As even Aspinall said if he fought Alex he'd go for the takedown in the first 10 seconds of the fight...
