Action Jackson (1988)

You reanimated your own thread lol.

Yes it's an 80s over the top classic. I still remember talking about it at high school with the boys the day after it had been on tv when it came out.

ya, oddly, Weathers claimed he was the best boxer and Stallone said that he was at the bottom, including Dolph, himself, Burt Young and his brother above him. Carl was impressive in the training sequences, fast as hell, faster than most pros on the heavybag but of course none of that means he'd have any sort of mental toughness for the sport. In fact, I read he stormed out of a scene with Lundberg when it got too rough.

I read that too: Dolph literally threw him across the ring. They kept a version of that shot in the final cut, where Drago throws Apollo into the corner.

Prime Dolph was a beast. He nearly killed Stallone in one of the fight scenes. Hit him so hard he bruised Stallone's heart and Sly ended up in the ICU and was actually given the Last Rites at one point.

yup, i first read that in the enquirer so I didn't know if I should believe it but Sly's said it since then, Sly was a real meathead. He also told Earnie Shavers to hit him for real, Shavers said he tapped him and Sly excused himself, I heard he shit himself, came back and sent Earnie home.

Shaver's was one of the hardest punchers in boxing. Stallone admitted it was a bloody stupid thing to do, and that he just made it to the toilet before projectile-vomiting.

I actually give 'hespect to Sly for making it that far; I would have dropped on the spot if Shaver hit me with even a light - by his standards - punch.

yeah I was gonna do a thread about it but then had a distant memory of talking bout the cast on here, found it, necro'd that bitch

the music is the only real let down for me, considering it is Herbie Hancock and Michael Kamen, it should have been way better

there are only a few moments of that sassy Lethal Weapon sounding sax, some of it even has a comedy element to the score which doesn't work, even has a few boings here and there

I always use this movie as an example of how we grew up vs my kids. My kids are barely okay with strong language on TV. At their age, I watched the voice of Mr Incredible shoot a girl up with heroin and then suck on her titties.

Great flick.

But, I don't remember a man doing a handstand in a lake on the cover of Wish You Were Here.

seems to me the young are more sheltered today, which is probably not the case, rather they aren't having titties and sex as much in their movies. But of course they have too much access to online stuff as we all do. The kids I know seem way more coddled and naive than I remember being. I don't see many movies these days but how much nudity is even in todays pics?
