a rift in the gym

Old school Japanese dojos have an expression "The nail that sicks up will be hammered down." Evidently your dojo is unfamiliar with this policy. Otherwise, I suggest they use a bigger hammer.

I am lucky I guess, I am out-going, serious but with an easy smile and a nice sense of humor. I'm a tall, athletic, male and find it easy to converse with either sex.

I generally get invited to these get togethers of which you speak, that is not the case for every one.

I think you may need to leave, if you feel uncomfortable there. You probably make other people feel uncomfortable too.

I think you may be well advised to work on yourself, the way you think, the things you do, the way you carry yourself.

i joined for the bjj and the bjj only. but this shit kinda rubs me the wrong way and it feels divisive. i also found out that on certain holidays you know like martin luther king day or labor day or some shit they would get together at the gym and train but with only them.
Just tell them that you want to do extra training. If you still do not get the invite, then there is something wrong with you

My vote is for the cole slaw idea. Better hurry up though, there's not too much BBQing weather left this year!

I think the TS is the one with the Rift, not the gym... It sounds like the gym is getting along just fine...

This is a funny thread with funny responses i must say! haha

i feel a rift in my gym. my instructor sometimes has get togethers and stuff and he only invites a select number of people. he would have barbeques and celebrate birthday parties and what not and i would not get invited. sometimes i feel alienated and it kinda makes me not like the instructor and his clique (which of course includes some of my 'teammates') not a whole lot but to a small degree. and a lot of times a member of the clique would have get togethers and would only invite a select few also. oh yeah, my instructor is a young dude maybe 2 or 3 years older than me. i don't know this just rubs me the wrong way. and don't lie. you know you dislike those that snub you.

well anyways do you think this is an acceptable reason to leave the gym? the reason being that i don't like the exclusivity and cliques? i mean i joined bjj to get away from everything but obviously i can't get away from everything all the b.s. and stuff. the stuff i hated in high school i am seeing in my gym. in your eyes is this a good reason to leave?

You are looking at it in a selfish way. You are trying to control them to do what you want. If you want to hang out with them, it should be about what you add to their group not what they do for you. Also You should let them be free to be who and what they are and let yourself do the same. You don't have to be liked by everyone and people have their own problems and issues as well.

man, i've been "biting my tongue" for quite some time, but i've had enough...

i'm part of this "clique" you speak of...i know who you are! i've been watching you post these stupid, trollish threads, and i'm ashamed that you air our "dirty laundry" to the sherdog world.

so, here's some more "dirty laundry" i'll add to the pile...

1. nobody likes to roll with you because you spaz out like a fish out of water. we've tried telling you that you can't possibly armbar your opponent when you're mounted...it just doesn't work like that.

2. wash your gi, and your mouth...everyday. your gi is brown and rancid like a dead fish, kind of like your game, but dead. your breath smells like rotten asparagus, try brushing teeth with crest.

3. stop talking during rolling sessions...just save it. your opponent doesn't care that your girlfriend cheats on you.

these are just a few reasons why you aren't allowed in our elite circular group of friends....fix that up and see where that gets ya.

damn.

After reading some of your posts, I come to the conclusion that your instructor doesn't invite you because you're a brain dead loser who harbours backward, fucked up opinions on how training and competition should be done.

I do not blame your instructor for his decision.

Eventually, everyone will learn that he is a troll.

The biggest give-away was when he claimed to be a brown belt.

That cannot defend a triangle without being swept?

a brownbelt that gets shunned by the rest of the class and the instructor?
dude must be a huge duche
