He has proven to be one of the most game, active, and entertaining fighters, not to mention one of the greatest strikers in UFC history. His overall presence is also top tier.

BUT

Putting him up there with Anderson as an MMA fighter who beat all styles of opponents is laughable.

He still has a long way to go to prove he's the one of the best MMA fighters ever.

He should have already fought Ank at LHW and even guys like Brunson to earn his MW shot.

Of course man, don't know if any sane fan is comparing his record to Silva's yet.

Interesting you raise Brunson, I always thought that was a bad match up for Pereira, he potentially avoided him (or the UFC made sure he did)

Welcome to Sherdog. Big fan of yours in the 90's.

I don't think a fighter's job is display effectiveness against a wide array of styles. I think it's to win fights.

I think the need to have already fought Ank is overstated. Yes, Ank is the next guy in the rankings, but if we're giving a "fair" assessment Ank just fought for the title where he s##t the bed. If Ank had gotten past Jan like Alex did, they'd have fought by now. Ank has subsequently has gone 1-0-1 against one opponent so it's not like he's been hyper active or on a streak. The best argument for Ank is that everyone else is coming off a loss, probably to Alex.

I think anyone who wins a belt has distinguished themselves as one of the best ever, and anyone who wins 2 has accomplished something really special. Most guy will never even earn a single title shot. I don't think it's possible to pass up Jones' defenses, but he could certainly be in the running for #2 LHW of all time with another win or two.
