I would drop this in the crime megathread, but the implications of the governor and federal government clashing elevates this to its own topic imo. In a very violent weekend, almost 60 people were shot (in the past, that number in Chicago has reached triple digits) with 8 being killed. Governor Pritzker and mayor Brandon Johnson, warned trump to keep the fuck out and states he was neither wanted nor needed in Chicago or the state. Trump tweeted that they better get their shot together when the violence began escalating on Saturday morning.

What is your opinion on trump sending troops to a non federal state and city (whereas DC is on federal ground)? Honestly, I am mixed. In my opinion, both the governor and mayor suck at their jobs and are clearly out of their depth and have no answers to the violence issue in Chicago. There were no reported arrests and Johnson has highlighted no strategy going forward. However, I am not in favor of sending in troops on American soil over a city/state issue. The gov should be calling in state police from all over to help with the crime, as should the mayor, but the fed government should just let them wallow in their failures.

If democrats wonder why they can never get a control of the narrative on crime…and why they are losers.

Fatso’s response to 7 dead 50+wounded?

How about it democrats? Is that a satisfactory response to being told your biggest city is a third world shit hole?

And it’s something that’s going to easily be disproven in due time. Just like “there is no way to stop mass immigration at the border, they are too determined”

They clearly have no answers to this issue of violence and that should be remembered come election time

Chicago stats:

Year
Homicides
2015480
2016764
2017650
2018561
2019490
2020770
2021804
2022725
2023621
2024573

2025: on pace for 550-575 (including Labor Day)

Hard to sell an emergency when homicides have gone down the last 4-5 years.

While I don’t want to see American troops deployed in our cities, I would argue that the crime and murders are out of control in this city and the state and city leaders aren’t doing shit about it

The discussion should start at the constitutionality of using the United States military to police domestically.

That's the legal question. The moral question in my mind is provided it's not corrupt "policing", what's the problem? The clip in OP is cut off so don't hear the mayor's full answer (and probably cut off for strategic propagandic purposes), but saying Trump doesn't do this to red states and may be politically motivated -- let's say that's true. What's the problem? Normally people complain of a lack of funds etc for policing and stuff, and so dedicating extra resources seems like a good thing to me.

I might be missing something here -- is it that Democrats think it gives Trump too much positive publicity by potentially being able to say "I cleaned up these Democrat run areas?" At a 30,000 feet in the air level I feel homicide in the U.S. is at an unacceptable rate for such a rich country with stable government. The murder rate in Chicago is several times the national average -- the not so big handful of other cities with higher rates are overwhelmingly considerably smaller populations and the rate differentials aren't that big, so lowering their rates won't save as many lives on absolute terms. I mean, it's one thing like Mexico which has so much lawless land from cartels and corrupt government, but USA while of course having big problems they're not at that level by any stretch.

I think opponents of Trump will want to keep the conversation there permanently, going in circles. Meanwhile, people are dying. I don't want soldiers patrolling the streets forever, but we are seeing how effective it is being used in D.C. When is a crisis bad enough that a President has to step in and use the National Guard to stop murder and crime because the politicians are just not doing enough? I think that's a more important conversation.
