The consensus seems to be that Volk outclassed and him and that there’s no way Max can win and I’m like ...? The first fight was close as fuck it wasn’t a domination at the slightest..

Max is the greatest FW in MMA history and to write him off completely is weird.

He's great for 145. But he's pillow fisted, kind of like a Diaz but with better cardio, footwork, kicks, TDD, and even output.

Guys like Volk and Poirier have his number. They just put a beating on him with good power and all he can respond with are pitter patter punches. Those punches are highly accurate and voluminous, which works great against manlet 145'ers, but not against guys with great power.

Styles / genetics makes fights.

Because Aldo's fans are almost as butthurt as Anderson Silva fans

This is Sherdog. You're a f**king bum after 1 loss, remember?

I don’t feel like Volk but that bad of a beating on him, he won yes but a beating? that’s overdramatic imo.

Well, he's been saying some low frequency shit regarding the scorecards and the judges, doubling down on the approach he had for the first fight.

He thinks he won the first fight bc he didnt get floored or strangled, dismissing the fact that Volk styled on him. And as a fan of max, that's some frustrating shit to hear tbh.

The first fight wasn't close and he's not the best ever. I don't know why people like Joe Rogan say that he's the best ever, and act like it's some sort of certainty. Like Aldo just doesn't exist.

that’s just it. When he lost I wanted to here him bring a new angle to his game. Evolve. Learn. Grow. Instead he’s like “nah that was bullshit”. It’s like ok, even if it was, which it wasn’t, you need to find some value in your loss and grow from it. So now he’s not acknowledged any kind of growth. He’s coming in the same guy with the same skills, and more mileage. AGAINST THE EXACT SAME PERSON? Like what???? Nothing has improved here for you. At all.

Why do people act like you can just use one head to head matchup to decide who is better all time? It doesnt make any sense. Hallman beat down Hughes twice, nobody puts Hallman above Hughes.

Nice strawman broski. We’re not discussing Hallman and Hughes. we’re discussing the two consensus featherweight GOATS, one who beat down the other twice.

Not that many people put Sylvia over Arlovski, no one puts Weidman over Silva, and no one puts Mir above Nogueira. Yeah, the narrative doesn't work.

Or maybe it's the fact that they fought not long ago and Volk won fairly decisively. Seems like most people just don't think Max can change up his style that quickly, if at all

Volk has proven himself to be a master of timing, movement, angles and game planning. After he was nearly knocked out by Mendes in an absolute war, he and his team have smartly decided to work to very high fight IQ game plans that stifle their opponent's movement and don't allow Volk to take a lot of damage.

Max is pretty much a straight forward fighter at this point. You know what he's bringing to the table offensively. However, what Volk and his team did was score repeatedly with leg kicks and move forward when Max would look to let his hands go, cutting off that distance and preventing Max from throwing a lot of strikes.

It seemed only after Max stopped giving a shit about the leg kicks and changed stance, he had much more success. I had the fight 3-2, but could understand 4-1. Max cannot go into this fight expecting to do what he usually does. He will lose again if so.

That said, Max is a bad ass. So is Volk. Losing to guys this far up the MMA food chain really shouldn't dampen anyone's perspective on them.

Then again, it is Suredawg.

Lol you don't know what a strawman is. Aldo reigned over the division much longer with many more defenses. It takes more than just a head to head victory to be the greatest of all time. Everyone has losses. Using your metric whoever won the most recently is automatically goat until they lose to someone else. If Volk wins the rematch is he suddenly the fw goat?
