2025 Motorsports Thread

Only fitting that Hamilton and Russell should be upfront in this race, and Norris continues to impress. Verstappen looked terrible in Q3, missing his marks repeatedly. Distracted for some reason, hope he didn’t catch his gf riding a Moor.
Oof

McLaren have thrown hard with strategy today. Lando should have been pitted when everyone else and onto mediums.

Why give Lando the option of the soft. Medium wins him the race.
If McLaren just followed everyone else into the pits and gave Lando mediums, they probably finish 1-2. Oscar was absolutely flying in that last stint, only finishing 12 seconds off the lead despite losing a pit stop worth of time due to bad strategy calls.

Exactly. Max getting out of touch at the beginning was odd. He had so much pace on the hards. He he could have stayed closer by the first stops, he could have won also.

Sainz is now within 4 points of Leclerc and that’s after missing an entire Grand Prix to appendicitis. The two were, I think, 6 and 7 at one point of this race. Then Ferrari strategists struck when Leclerc pitted early for Intermediates and blew his entire race. Sainz, true to his reputation, acted as his own strategist, stayed out until the right time and ended up taking 5th. It boggles my mind that three teams in a row have cut him and he’s just continued to fall upward. Will it happen again? Latest talk is that Mercedes, on the ascendancy again, is giving him another look for next year.

God bless the rain, what a race. Tire strategies really came into play. A third and fourth for McClaren is still point worthy.
Sir Hammy showed up, rotten luck for George.
Max fighting until the end as always.
Brilliant.

The call with leclerc was awful. Then they doubled down and kept him out. By the time it was time for inters, his tires were done. I can understand gambling, but come on.

Lando looked dejected and rightfully so. He’ll be dreaming about being on mediums.

Sooooooooooooo much salt this race. I don't blame Lando, this is the teams fault. Oscar lost his gap due to his own mistakes and then had another on his out lap. Had Oscar been able to close the gap and then Lando refused to give it up, then yeah that's shitty on Lando but that's not the case.

Lando didn’t do himself any favours losing two spots at the start and almost a third to Lewis.

The right thing is to give Oscar the place, the smart thing is to let lando keep the place.

True, idk why Lando sucks at starts so much. McLaren needs to get their shit together, now that they have the fastest car they can't keep making shit calls in the strategy department. Had they just pitted Oscar first then there wouldn't have been this drama.

I mean, they said they had to cover Lewis. But he was on hards, so even with track position lost, fresher mediums were flying. Although I think Russell got fastest lap on the new hards. You can’t worry about that imo

Yes, McLaren should have made the team orders incumbent on Oscar being able to close the gap to Lando. Instead, having made an unnecessary promise, the situation devolved into a poisonous battle of wills. Result is that team harmony is seriously undermined. They clearly have the fastest car at this point but are prone to errors that will hurt their chances at dethroning Max.
