I believe she is a smarter than the average human, and she dedicated a very high % of her time to academic success. I don't know that much about her. If she was that dedicated to studying material, she is likely a quality person.

How far left she decides to go in her political doctrine, which is outside of a person's intelligence or willingness to work hard academically, is something I would have to know. A person's politics these days can almost be something outside who they really are.

No, I don't believe I've ever said Trump....picked white appointees merely because of their whiteness. Trump doesn't need any assistance pandering to white people.
You've never said Trump used identity politics to get elected?

<DontBelieve1>

not sure if this is common knowledge around here or not, but I just watched a fox clip where they said beto wants to not only cease funding for a physical southern border, but he would actually spend funding to tear down the currently existing 600+ miles of border fence.

I thought that has to be bullshit so i googled it and sure enough a video pops up of beto saying if he is president, the currently standing border fences will be torn down because they cause illegals to have to travel in perilous conditions that can potentially cost them their lives so the barrier must come down.

I mean wow, just wow. Even the left leaning people I know who vote blue irregardless and hate trump dont think open borders is the way to go. If Im beto's opposition at any point in the campaign, left or right, im using his stance on an open border against him.

Yea, that’s idiotic and a reason why people on the right could think democrats are for open borders. You have to weed out those stances if you want to avoid that branding.

<DontBelieve1>

That's not what I said. In fact, I very obviously said the opposite in the very post you quoted.

Saying "Donald Trump uses identity politics" is different than saying, for instance, "William Barr was only chosen because he's white, just like any white man," when Barr has robust experience in the DOJ.

You took "moderately successful novelist" from an impeccable resume that included elite academic achievements, broad and diverse government experience including a congressional leadership position, an unprecedentedly successful gubernatorial campaign, and, yes, experience in non-profits and in the private sector as a fiction writer.

This is where your "I'm not a conservative hack" gimmick fails. Might as well say, "how could anyone vote for Beto O'Rourke? His only job experience is writing songs for a rock band in the early 1990s!"

Or, "how could anyone vote for Obama? His only experience is as a community organizer." But that's crazy talk.

Comparing a governor of a state running for vice pres and a "moderately successful novelist" running for vice pres is ridiculous, thats what you think.

We rejected Sarah Palin because we thought she was unfit for the job, but this "moderately successful novelist" ,we should give her a shot. What a joke.
Hey now! A moderately successful novelist is no joke.

Skeptical Democratic donors tell Joe Biden they will not raise funds for him at the start of the 2020 campaign
  • Several top Democratic donors have told Joe Biden they aren’t willing to bundle funds for him in the early stages of the 2020 primary race.
  • Biden has recently called financiers for help with competing against candidates, such as Beto O’Rourke and Bernie Sanders, who have raised millions of dollars over the first 24 hours of their campaigns.
  • “I told him, ‘I can donate, but I don’t think I can raise you money today,’” says a billionaire donor.

I'm having a hard time understanding how having experience in the government is a bad thing when holding a high office position in government. Can one of you enlightened conservatives explain this to me?

I mean you elected someone with 0 experience in government to the highest office in the land and his staff has to hide documents from him just because they feel he's an incompetent idiot incapable of enacting laws/treaties that are the best for the nation.

Government employees aren't exactly the people who have proven themselves to be innovative, great salespeople with interpersonal skills or great minds because they relied on safe steady paycheck and with low accountability standards, often associated with state or government employees. If you want to hire empty suit to fill the positions, then vote government employees in.

If the pick were a white person, would it automatically just be pandering to white people?

Of course, her being representative of a huge (and hugely marginalized) portion of the party's voter base is notable, but why is it that, in a party that is nearly half-comprised of racial minorities, picking any racial minority for a leadership position is automatically pandering to those voters with an otherwise unqualified pick?

Why can't you just see things deeper than the color of one's skin?
Yes, she is black. But she also has a very specific story that lends herself to be leveraged to pander to the sjw left and minorities.
She is very intelligent, yes. But to be considering her for VP ---already... is obviously not about her qualifications -- which as a former State Congressperson is pretty lacking considering she would be next in line to run the country. Its obviously for optics and pandering.

It is true though. He knows he needs a woman/minority on the ticket. It is blatant and patronizing.

While they may think they are ingratiating themselves with female voters by promising to put a woman in the second spot, they are in effect saying, “You don’t have to feel bad about voting for yet another male president because I will give a woman the runnerup’s prize.” It’s using a hypothetical woman (as a running mate) to deflect the arguments being made by actual female presidential contenders that it’s time to break the all-male monopoly on the Oval Office.

These male candidates’ promise to pick a female running mate is not intended to be condescending or dismissive or to hobble female contenders. It’s simply a clueless way of trying to convince voters they can in good conscience avoid voting for a female president. That’s a bizarre way of showing your feminist bona fid

In fairness, could a white Democrat choose any prominent minority political figure as a running mate, and not have that shoved in their face? Is there anything that makes her not particularly qualified for such a position?

Of course there are going to be hacks that point to every minority as pandering, it depends on the candidate and it depends on the position they're getting appointed to.

Abrams was a state congressperson. That is as far as she got in government.
If a state congressperson ran for POTUS would you argue for or against his/her qualifications to be POTUS?
This woman would be a bullet, or heart attack (Biden will be 78 if/when he wins), from being POTUS.

She has a compelling story, that is why she is being considered for VP so early, because Joe needs a compelling story to distract from himself and augment his media exposure to win early. Its painfully obvious. I'm having trouble remembering the last nominee who announced his/ her candidacy with a VP candidate already on the ticket. Can you?

Why would we tear down existing fences at the border? That doesn’t makes sense.
O'Rourke's argument seems to be that the existing fences/walls force migrants to make longer and more perilous journeys. He says the death toll as a result is over 4,000.

The post you were responding to what in response to someone saying "She's black." when another poster said "why would anyone pick her? What does she offer?" The entire context of the "pandering" discussion was racial, as it usually is.

Conservatives really care about retaining and strengthening social and political institutions.

I was responding directly to your comment, not @Seano's. Don't use his post to rationalize your response to mine.
And pandering can be more than racial, as I explained in my follow up post.

Idk why you’re doing this. Do you just like arguing with people?

Is she the best for the job?

I mean, we can pretend all we want. She's all about the identity. The voter suppression, the poor incapable blacks who can't get IDs because of white people....

Fuck. That. Shit.
