I don’t understand why Abrams’ would even be in the picture. What’s appealing about her exactly? That’s almost like a Palin type choice.

What the fuck?

She's a Yale Law graduate with an incredible amount of political experience at the municipal, state, federal, and federal-administrative levels, award-winning work in charity and political organization, and who just came within a few points of winning a governor's race in the former confederacy despite being a black woman running against a Republican opponent who was actively overseeing the election himself as the sitting Secretary of State.

By the time she was 36 she had a JD from the best law school in the country, a bachelor's and master's as a Harry Truman Scholar at UT, had worked in the Atlanta mayoral office, had worked at a federal executive agency, had founded and led two different non-profits, and had become the minority leader of the Georgia House of Representatives.

Comparing her to Palin? Fucking seriously? Abrams is one of the most decorated and promising political prospects in the country.

And you're a racist piece of shit.

Palin doesn't have two advanced degrees (including a JD from Yale Law), wasn't a successful businesswoman, wasn't a moderately successful novelist, etc. Absurd comparison. Everything about this woman's life (just wiki her) screams intelligence and decency, but all you guys can see is her skin color. Sad.

Beat me to it.

I'm ashamed that I didn't know what an impressive woman Abrams was until after she lost the governor's race....but I would never, never claim someone is a worthless token character without at least glancing over their record first. And neither would they if she wasn't a black woman. All it takes is looking at her Wikipedia page to see that she's a solid political figure.

Who was a "successful" business woman? Abrahms? She jumped into public works as soon as she came back from Yale. Boom. Them government checks is all she wanted. When does the government dependency= business success?

Nice try.

I should say that I don't think she has a presidential-caliber résumé yet, but she's certainly the kind of person who can get one, and soon. If she'd won the race for gov, after her first term, she'd be a great candidate. Maybe a term in the Senate could get her there.

Palin was just a Governor of Alaska when McCain chose her. I mean, I guess she doesn't "scream intelligence", whatever thats supposed to mean.

Moderately successful novelist.... lol. What the fuck. Why not pick Stephen King? He's a massively successful novelist.

Why say bullshit even you don't believe? You know why she's in the discussion and its not her resume. Her actions after the Georgia election were not decent. How about we reject another round of "Racism, racism, racism!"

I don't think Stephen King wants to run for office. I think if he tried to gain experience, I'd be very interested. And why would you think I don't believe that she's really impressive just because she's black? I'm sorry, but that is racism.

.

yeah, she's great on paper and she should have won in GA, but that doesn't explain why she would be the choice for VPOTUS?
How many other former state congresspersons have been chose to be VP candidate? Is blatant pandering.

edit: and typical political posturing. Setting her up for something down the line.

I appreciate you helping me make my point ,drone.

You can be impressed with whoever you like. I'm sure she's a fine woman. But she's being chosen for a reason and you know it. I don't get why he have to dance around it. Saying she's being chosen to play your emotions seems entirely accurate based on this short conversation.

Do you believe she is the most qualified? Do you believe it would be difficult to name 25 people more deserving off the top of your head?

I'm ashamed to say that I knew none of this about Abrams until you posted it.

I believe that she's extremely impressive, that comparing her to Palin is ridiculous, and that your comment indicated that you're unable to look past her skin color, that you see this incredible woman and only think "black." Further, the notion that being black is some kind of free ticket to the vice presidency is, let us say, not well supported by the evidence.

Comparing a governor of a state running for vice pres and a "moderately successful novelist" running for vice pres is ridiculous, thats what you think.

We rejected Sarah Palin because we thought she was unfit for the job, but this "moderately successful novelist" ,we should give her a shot. What a joke.

In fairness, could a white Democrat choose any prominent minority political figure as a running mate, and not have that shoved in their face? Is there anything that makes her not particularly qualified for such a position?

Do you think it's honest to pick out one of many impressive items on her résumé and act as if that's the only thing on it?

If you want to try to honestly engage, I'm here.

You took "moderately successful novelist" from an impeccable resume that included elite academic achievements, broad and diverse government experience including a congressional leadership position, an unprecedentedly successful gubernatorial campaign, and, yes, experience in non-profits and in the private sector as a fiction writer.

This is where your "I'm not a conservative hack" gimmick fails. Might as well say, "how could anyone vote for Beto O'Rourke? His only job experience is writing songs for a rock band in the early 1990s!"

If the pick were a white person, would it automatically just be pandering to white people?

Of course, her being representative of a huge (and hugely marginalized) portion of the party's voter base is notable, but why is it that, in a party that is nearly half-comprised of racial minorities, picking any racial minority for a leadership position is automatically pandering to those voters with an otherwise unqualified pick?

Have you said things like this in regards to Trumps rhetoric? Be honest.

No, I don't believe I've ever said Trump....picked white appointees merely because of their whiteness. Trump doesn't need any assistance pandering to white people.

I'm having a hard time understanding how having experience in the government is a bad thing when holding a high office position in government. Can one of you enlightened conservatives explain this to me?

I mean you elected someone with 0 experience in government to the highest office in the land and his staff has to hide documents from him just because they feel he's an incompetent idiot incapable of enacting laws/treaties that are the best for the nation.
