There are so many Hillary supporters on my FB feed who are painting Sanders as the 'Cruz' of the Democratic party. The disdain for his candidacy and its supporters is palpable.

Yeah, I just read about the coin tosses. What in the fucking fuck?

I just hope this mobilizes even more people.

Its incredible that a German outsider like you understands the only hope for republicans and the exact reasons why, but half the republicans themselves have their heads so far up their asses, they cant see this simple basic stuff.

European posters here consistently show levelheadedness way, way above a typical conservative and even some liberals.

Just shows the type outrageous indoctrination in the US. NY Magazine profiled a bunch of Republican undecideds a few days ago. Baffling stuff for the most part:

So is Trump done then?
My understanding is a win in Iowa would have been a huge coup for trump but a loss only hurts him a little. Trump can still win. Trump seems slightly less inevitable now

This really seems to agree with what I've noticed myself here and in other conversations with people from the US: Republican supporters believe everything is getting worse, and the country is falling apart.

It was interesting that the article mentions that few of those they spoke to held abortion or same sex marriage as key issues, and were more concerned with the general fear of a cultural shift that was leading to them being a persecuted minority, and how, above all else, they needed a strong leader to make it like it was.

So is Trump done then?

It is a big hit to his Aura of Invincibility. All he ever talks about is how much of a winner he is. So this hurts his mystique. If he loses New Hampshire its over. I'm thinking it's gonna be super close and the winner will not have more than a 5 point advantage.

Only Trump, Cruz, and Rubio are in the game. All the others are just taking up space.

I had thought going into this Trump had talked about how his campaign would like to win here, but how it was neither necessary nor especially expected?

Trump supporters don't seem like the kind of people that would get involved in a positive activity on the ground, like a caucus. Unless that activity involved beating up someone.

why does no one want cruz to win?
The policies he advocates would be horribly destructive to the country economically and socially. He's much worse than Trump or Rubio, both of whom are quite awful.

Frankly, Trump>Rubio>Cruz. That's rather frighening given how awful Trump is.

Do Trump, Rubio or Cruz actually have a shot in the general election though? I'd have thought even Sanders would see any of that lot off fairly handily.

yes, but people forgot this because Trump got a late surge of support coming into the caucuses and it looked like he was going to win, so expectations rose.

It's frightening but there's some truth to it. But there's also a more frightening possibility with Trump, and that is this image of a very charismatic man with no party allegiance and a track record of behaving like a crazy despot...I believe he's a threat to democracy, whereas Rubio and Cruz are merely threatening to implement disastrous policies. Bush Jr and Obama (who seem to really love our country despite their mistakes) laid some groundwork for a maniac by eroding civil liberties. We're quite vulnerable to the executive pen these days.

Fair point but I don't really see such attempts as being successful. If anything, such attempts would likely result in an eroding of presidential power--there's some interesting stuff by a political theorist about the instability of presidential systems.

I don't see Cruz as a legitimate threat but Rubio is quite palatable in comparison.

Rubio does. Cruz doesn't. If trump gets an evangelical vp shot he does. Cruz is hated by everyone on both sides. He carried Iowa based on old Christians. Rubio is more appealing and could get Hispanic votes. Trump needs the far right. Someone was giving me grief yesterday for saying trump needed the evangelical vote. And here we are now

Yes, countries that adopt socialism have always prospered both socially and economically. That's why we need Bernie.

And Cruz? Look at what having a conservative in the White House does to the country..... the 1980s.
