2016 GOP Convention Thread V2

Well he is stretching the truth a bit in his favor. But he is still right with the points he is making.

Thats why he has a chance in my opinion. People will watch it and might not agree 100% but they agree with his overall points.
And also on the other side you have Hillary, she is basically the picture candidate of everything that is wrong in politics today.

You're seeing what you want to. How in the world you saw anything offensive to black people in there, for example, is beyond me. All he said about them was that they have been screwed and as a result are in poor economic shape as a group. That's an acknowledgement of fact.
What parts did you find offensive to hispanics, blacks, and muslims?
I'm definitely open to discussion, and I'm not a ridiculous Trump fanboy. Mind laying out some specific language in the speech you found untenable?
A ban immigrants from countries with terrorist ties is anti islam. He's not talking war torn African countries, he's not talking the ira, hes not talking communist guerrillas in south America. Hes talking specifically any muslim from the middle east, the vast majority of whom are good.

For blacks it's the refusal to even acknowledge cops might be at fault in these shootings. It's an insult to a race that feels that they are being oppressed, to just tell them no your not, buck up. And then go further to rightly condemn cop killers but not the cops who act out of turn. "I'll be a law and order president". Just so we are clear, less cops have died in the line of duty in the obama era in comparison to any president dating back to reagan.

And for hispanics, again he made it seem like every illegal here is a fucking rapist murderer. He didnt say anything positive about hispanics in general. The language he used ties hispanic to murderer. If I talk about nba centers who cant can't shoot free throws and go on about how it's the plight of the nba and makes games unwatchable (which it does sometimes), and dont follow it up with anything positive about basketball, your going to leave with the idea that watching the nba fucking sucks.

The same day a Trump advisor called for Hillay to be shot.

I think this happened today, too:

An elected Trump delegate from Chicago known for months to be a white supremacist has had her credentials stripped by the Illinois Republican party after posting a racial slur to Facebook and making “threats of violence" against black people.

Lori Gayne, a Chicago-area mortgage banker, was attending the Republican National Convention and posted a photo on Sunday night of police officers standing on the roof of Cleveland’s Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, where an opening party was taking place. She wrote the following caption, indicating that cops were prepared to shoot black protesters:

“Our brave snipers just waiting for some “n---- to try something. Love them.”

"I strongly regret the offensive statements I recently made on social media. While I in no way intended to make racist or threatening statements, I now realize that they could be interpreted that way," she said.

She's not even the first white supremacist kicked out apparently.

Keynesian tax policies are counter-cyclical. They aren't one direction like the supply side madness.

And he's just finding God on this issue?

Guess I'll have to post this again, from 1993:

Once again, it's strange to see the side who blasted free trade/globalism now turning staunchly against such a thing just because the person who finally took the initiative ended up being a Republican (and an outsider Republican at that).
Trump has always and still is benefiting from globalism. For for fuck sake he was pushing it in his trump u memos

Because they are representative of the left, and once again, this growing madness in the left is being marginalized with the "small minority" argument.

It's the same argument that was said in 2013, 2014, and 2015, and yet it keeps growing.

But go ahead and continue to deny it. The crazies are taking control of the Democrats right now and the more you pretend like the problem doesn't exist, the larger it'll grow.

Newt Gingrich may disagree with you and agree with Hillary.

It was a dark speech if you have all your chips on Shillary. And LOL at fear mongering. If it was up to liberals, they would have every responsible gun owner convinced that their gun would grow legs and shoot them in the middle of the night.

For me Ivankas speech surprised me more. If you closed your eyes you would say she was democrat. I like her honesty of not being a republican or democrat. She's just a rich chick who has been thrown to politics because of her dad

And she's white...so you must really hate her.

I'm pretty sure I don't support a total ban, but this idea that the vast majority of muslims from the middle east don't hold troubling ideas that should not be imported to the west just isn't true based on the research. Startling percentages of muslims in the middle east, Indonesia, and Europe believe things that are not acceptable in America.

For blacks it's the refusal to even acknowledge cops might be at fault in these shootings. It's an insult to a race that feels that they are being oppressed, to just tell them no your not, buck up. This is not racist in the slightest against blacks. There are unjustified shootings of black Americans, some of which probably happened because of the color of the victims skin. But buying into anti police rhetoric after the recent attacks against them would be much worse. Especially since I've never seen actual research that holistically evaluates data on police shootings and takes into account things like the vastly disparate crime rates of different races. Only anecdotes.

And for hispanics, again he made it seem like every illegal here is a fucking rapist murderer. He didnt say anything positive about hispanics in general. The language he used ties hispanic to murderer. It's bullshit to me that Trump's initial quote about rapists and murderers has been paraphrased and misquoted so many times that people actually believe he said all immigrants are rapists and murderers. He said some of them are, and illegal immigration is not something that we should stand for, end of story. Not sure how anything he said in his speech could possibly be construed as racist against hispanics, it's major reaching and it seems like you had a preconceived notion his speech would be racist against hispanics.

I have never been anti-globalism or free trade. That's just Ludditism.

Again if you think nafta is anti-keynsian, it just proves you do not understand.
And I never said that you were that way. I said that your party was, which is an accurate statement.

lol, it used to be "sane" to want the American work force to be protected. Then it was "xenophobic" by the people who profited from it. Now the ad hominem is merely being a Luddite.

Anything, and I mean anything, to admit that Trump is way more left on this issue - and with the American people as a whole - than Hillary Clinton. This is a bubble world.

It's pretty disgusting how biased the media is in its reporting. I was watching on PBS and let's just say none of the people "analyzing" the Convention voted in a republican primary.
The party that kicked out male delegates because they weren't "diverse" enough don't care about diversity of political opinion once they get a hegemony on media outlets.

people who can't see how that speech was fear mongering and offensive to hispanics, blacks, and muslims... well I don't even know what to tell you guys, and even if I did, its not like it would matter.

Van Jones once again said exactly what I was thinking. I came into tonight open minded, I really did. I was on a high from Theil and Ivanka. And then Trump reminded me he's trump and untenable.
lol @ Van Jones coming into the night open minded.

I'm sure Sean Hannity will be the same with the DNC next week.

The Prince dudes reply was better. Along the lines he bailed out Trump twice financially.
It's pretty funny considering trump was actively hitting up British MPs for election funds

Someone had a bunch of favorites/retweets on Twitter by saying that talking about Chicago, Baltimore, and Detroit was "code" for anti-black.

I mean, the idea dog whistle politics has some validity, but sometimes people are just chasing ghosts that they've created.

Being anti-globalism, i.e. the recognition that the world is "smaller" and more interconnected so more cooperation is necessary, is like being right on evolution or climate change. It's just head in the sand stupidity. The world is global, its not a political stance, it is a reality.

Trying protect the American workforce through trade deals is laughable as well, at least how you mean it. Manufacturing is never coming back. At least not the way it was. We will be harming ourselves to attempt to enforce it unaturally.
