Thoughts on V2 and Jones vs Aspinal ?

Aspinall is the real HW champ

Jon being a favourite is hilarious. How does he beat Aspinall? Doesn’t have the power to cause Tom problems and Tom would easily be able to keep the fight standing. The little we saw of Jones on the feet at HW looked slow and awkward as hell. I honestly doubt he even beats Stipe.

Tom has some spring in his step. If he’s taken down quickly he’ll probably get up. He’s a big guy with good bjj so he’s definitely tough to hold down

He is favorite because he has the experience and Tom does not. Jon does have power, he has power in his kick-strikes, which have wobbled and put down fighters. Also his elbow strikes if he still utilizes them, (which i do not know why he stopped). also have power and that is something Tom has not relatively seen in the UFC. But one thing that is in favor for Tom is that he is not fighting Prime Jones. Who does not throw elbow strikes or knee strikes anymore let alone do what he use to do.

Another issues is that Tom also has not been tested for 5 rounds against a fighter of Jones skill and experience regardless of his older age. Jones has about 10 KO's and 7 submissions against the elites. Tom has about 11 KO's and 3 submissions. Jones has never paniced in a fight and sometimes that has cost him as he seems to have no urgency, such as the Reyes fight. He fought in the Reyes fight as if he was calm the entire time, even when he was down on points. Aspinall also takes more chances which can play either well or bad in a situation against an experienced and very calm and collected vet. Jones average fight time is 14:53 whereas Tom's average fight time is around 2:20. Jones has much more exprience going the distance whereas Tom does not.

But The fight could be extremely difficult for jones because Aspinall has amazing distance recognition which can make the fight for jones a tough fight. Aspinall is also good a throwing fakes and moving in and out. He is extremely agile for a 6'5 HW fighter and jones has lost a lot of speed. But again Aspinall has never been in the cage with a fighter with as much ring and championship experience as Jones. Aspinall has never gone the distance with someone as skilled and experienced as Jones. The reality about Jones is that he is a better competitor than he is a fighter, and that is why he is the favorite.
