Zookeeper Gabe's Animal Thread V6.0

I've never seen a full grown one, all the ones I've seen are 3-4 inches.
It's crazy how they went from being the worst possible thing to have in your tank that everybody killed immediately to divers actually collecting them and people paying $80+ for them.
I wouldn't ever own one. They stay in their burrow 99% of the time and only come out to feed. You can't keep anything else in there tank either.

That one guy's tank is pretty cool; you get to see it at all times.
The spearing one is a little too creepy for me, though. They also don't seem to be as colorful?

Once they get their burrow built, they just sit there. They don't even really move much in there.
There's a bunch of different species, it just depends on where he was collected from.
The most common one you'll see is Wennerae since most of the live rock anymore is aqua cultured in Florida waters. You don't get all the cool hitch hikers any more.
I've gotten some cool hitch hikers over the years. Crabs, starfish, plants, etc.

I found a picture of an old tank, probably form 2004-2005.

@jefferz all I can think of is the massive amount of dog poop at that park.

Also I've never seen the giant spearing mantis shrimp before. Some really bizzare animals on this planet.

@jefferz

If you had a coral reef tank, could you also include see anemones and clown fish?
Also, I'm watching a documentary on the Andaman and there are some gorgeous sea slugs; are they a manageable species w/ or w/out coral/anemone?

Most definitely. Clown fish don't need an anemone, they're just fine without them. Most clown fish now are captive bred so they've never seen an anemone to begin with. When I used to breed clowns, I never used anemone's in the tanks.
Downside to an anemones is when you place them in your tank, they don't stay put. They'll move around until they're happy, if they have to kill other coral to find a spot they will.
Sea slugs and nudibranch are better off left in the ocean. Most require a specialized diet or they just don't survive. I do see Sea Apples for sale from time to time, but I still wouldn't buy one.

Here's a crazy looking deep water shark found off the coast off of California.

I can say it was an amazing year for me in terms of animal watching. You know just be observant of the animials around us.

I live and work in the DC area and this year I saw for the first time the following animals.
I saw a skunk outside my work. I had never seen a wild skunk before.
Road kill Coyote. It was heartbreaking to see a dead dog on the side of the road, but I have never even heard of another person seeing a Coyote this far east.
Saw a Bald Eagle for the Second time.
I usually get a glimpse of at least on Osprey a year on the way to the beach in the swampy regions of the eastern shore.

But the highlight of my year has to be... I saw a beautiful Golden Eagle eating a kill in my neighbors yard. It was so big and strong, and the feathered legs made it look like it was on PEDS compared to the typical raptor in my area. Then when it took off, probably the most amazing flying I have ever seen. breathtaking.

I'm confused by the bolded. Coyotes live in virtually the entirety of North America. This is the wikipedia graphic of their range:

Bitches always be getting you into a fight.

That video is retarded, first that's not a Siberian tiger. At best it's a Siberian mutt, most likely a Bengal cross. Second wherever that was filmed is a shitty institution.

How about this. The ferocity and agility of a tiger is off the charts. Imagine being on foot in this situation.

Ratfish are one of the most common fish along the northern west coast, but a lot isn't know about them. I work at a fishing resort in AK and the guests always freak out when we hook one. Not a common fish to hook, but trawlers and bottom fishers get them all the time.

One of my coworkers did this.

Wtf, does the image tag not work from Photobucket anymore?

My friend is a panda keeper at national zoo in DC. I got to go behind the scenes and hangout with them. Not very bright but very cute.
wow, thats a special privilige very few humans on earth can experience.

#blessed

also, who uses photobucket anymore? Come on man, get with the times and use imgur.

Anyone see if Jack Hannah was on Maury this morning? Their Christmas animal shows are usually pretty good.

You ever see what that tiger did to the dude's hand there? Fella ended up with a paw like Benny from Total Recall.

Its insane. He has to be, 8 or 10 feet off the ground on the back of that elephant and in one swipe that tiger was able to about take his hand off his body. Can you imagine being on foot when one of those closes for the kill? You wouldn't make it 5 feet before he was dismembering you.

I know Gabe's already said as much, but just so the universe knows, this gets Monkadelic's Seal of Disapproval.

And I'm sure the universe is hanging its head in shame.
