Zookeeper Gabe's Animal Thread V6.0

In response to that last post about the stressors of my job. I had a kangaroo die in my arms today.
She was doing normally in the morning, had her breakfast and her pain meds. Got a call around 10:15 that a member of the public saw her breathing oddly. I went out and called her normal keeper. We decided to move her into the back area and made a nice hay bed so she would be comfortable. Laid her down and her keeper left to go to the hospital. I sat down with her and had her head on my lap with a hand on her. She made it about five more minutes before she passed. Vaya con dios mon amie.
She was 19 and had been batting cancer like a fucking Viking warrior.

Gabe, do you have a picture of Charlie Hunnam to help you get thru tough days, too?

Awful man. I know little about corals and I would have thought the filtration could pull that out. Really sorry man, just means you get to do something new and exciting. Can some of the coral have survived or is it bleached?

It was so heavy that filtration couldn't keep up. Crazy thing about a SW tank is you don't want to over filter it or you'll pull out minerals and other good stuff. Everything was a complete loss.
I'm thinking of trying to breed fancy shrimp.

The first batch of captive bred yellow tangs have been sent to distributors. I didn't realize the numbers would be so big, I figured maybe 30 each. They're saying the price will be double of a wild one, so they'll be $70-$80.
Tangs are finicky shippers so it'll be interesting to see if they ship better.

"Quality Marine and Segrest Farms will be the initial distributors. Each will get about 300-400 fish from this first batch,” Chad Callan, director of the finish breeding program at the Oceanic Institute at Hawaii Pacific University told Coral Magazine. "It’s possible there may be a second shipment in a few months of fish that are still too small, perhaps another 100 each. The rest will remain at OI for future broodstock.”

Sorry to hear about your 'roo friend, Gabe.
I'd like to imagine that he's beating up Sylvester the Cat in a better place now.

I was randomly surfing and came across the Honduran White Bat. I've always liked bats, and these guys are absurdly cute. They create "tents" out of leaves and then hang out like a bunch of cotton balls stuck to the underside.

Never heard of Honduran White Bat, will look it up. The picture seems cute.

Love tent bats.

I actually got some awesome footage of one of my geckos hatching last night. Will upload it tomorrow.

Here's the video I got of my gargoyle gecko egg hatching. This was pretty cool, I'm up to 7 babies right now and 3 adults. I need to start selling some of the off spring.

Gene spliced axolotls. I'm guessing their using the same jellyfish gene as Glo Fish.

Gabe, have you had much experience with porcupines? Do they normally get sociable with humans?
