Zookeeper Gabe's Animal Thread V6.0

Good man. I'm sure he'll reward you by tearing your lawn up for many years to come.

It's a condo, so my emotional investment in the communal lawn isn't great. I gain far more joy in watching those fat, ungainly bastards run when they feel threatened.

Wildlife has it pretty rough. If I have to sacrifice a little bit so they have a place to live, I'm okay with that. We have Turkey vultures who use our building as a winter roost. Many of the unit owners wanted to drive them away as they look creepy. I told the old lady who was spearheading the movement, "should we kick you out of your home because you look creepy?" That killed that conversation.

They would bob their head at you and when you did it back they got pissed. Could get an appeasement grin from them once in a while, unlike most primates showing them you teeth isn't a threat.

I would shit my pants if I got attacked by a troop? of baboons. Stupid hunger games movie (wife made me watch) had me freakin out.

My local pet store sometime sells axolotlys sp*. I wouldn't mind having an albino one they are cute.

Gabe, if you have time to kill you should download the game "quizup" on your phone and own some mofos in the "name that animal" category. It's pretty fun.

Love that white shark footage. I'm trying to get an invite on some of the research boats out here.

Axolotls are interesting. We have a few here at the zoo, they were actually thought to be extinct in the wild until they found some more. They only live in a single lake in Mexico.

I saw this and thought, this has to go in the Zookeeper thread. I laughed, then felt bad for laughing but its so ridiculous. This guy, for 8 hours, hurt so bad he broke into a sweat and shook all over.

Wow. What a pussy.

This is my friend Pat Spain.

Holy fuck :icon_lol::icon_lol::icon_lol:

He lost his grip on reality. Sorry but I'm not man enough for that, or stupid enough for that. Maybe when I was about 25 and half drunk I would have shoved my hands in those gloves.

That is nuts.

that was awesome. that mink reminds me of Conor. I'm watching his other videos now and its fascinating how quickly he tames this crazy bastard.

If you liked that you should check out the Mink vs. Muskrat video in P&M. Minks are insane.

A Mink vs. Mongoose would be PFP one of the best fights.

Trending on social media.

Zookeepers reenacting the raptor pose. My zoo posted this on their fb.
I walked in all normal and they just went oh hai.

Then I threw down in the stance and they all went. WTF

Lol that's awesome Gabe.

I was recently talking about a random animal fact that was discussed here and I was like "my internet zookeeper friend said so!" (not really in those words) and they looked it up on google and I stood correct.

That's hilarious.
What was the fact?

Honestly if you had said it in those words it would have been even better. Lol

Awesome. Made it to Hungary.
Hah. Made it to Hungary.

Hey Gabe, I just saw the video in another thread where the Jaguar attacks the caiman, and you mentioned that Jags made you more nervous than other big cats. Just wondering if you had any stories about that?

Also, was wondering about caiman's, croc's, alligator's skins? I thought they were kind of like a protective armour. Are the Jags jaws and teeth just that powerful that they can crush through it no problem?

Yeah I saw that and for some
Reason I forgot to respond. Jags make me more nervous mainly because they have a way about them. Think of the raptors in JP, smart but still hyper aggressive and just waitig for their chance. Tigers, lions and leopards yeah they are huge. But I always found them to be predictable. Jags are not and watch and learn your mannerisms.

Crocodilian skin is incredibly thick but Jags also predate on turtles. So their jaws are just very thick.

In the last few weeks outside by back door in humid SW Florida I kept seeing this snake:

Now, after some research, I found out my snake is a harmless Northern Water snake and not a poisonous water moccasin as I feared.

Nature is so amazing, with many harmless lookalikes to deadly creatures.

I like the snake now, I named him Larry. He comes out every afternoon to bask in the sun. : )

THank you for not killing the snake first. I get into this argument frequently with people up here that say they have Cottonmouths in their backyards. It's always a water snake because the farthest north Cottonmouths come is VA

YW, my immediate reaction was it was a cotton mouth, but I am really impressed with how it looks very much alike. I like having non-venomous snakes around because they provide such a great service in vermin control, etc...

Wow, that would be nerve-wracking indeed. Such beautiful animals, yet potentially so deadly
