Biofluorescence is showing up in a lot more mammals, basically we never thought to look before. In the past couple of years I’ve seen it myself on flying squirrels, short tail opossums and an article came out a few months ago about platypus.
edit. @jefferz we don’t, we have agouti and one is super friendly but no capybara.
In some cases we don’t really know, in others it’s believed to be a way for others of the same species to be able to see them from a ways away. A recent gecko has some very developed bioluminescence and its theorized it’s so they can be seen from far distances in a harsh landscape.why is it showing up? what is the evolutionary advantage?
Yes, they have been debating what to do about them for quite a while. Nothing quite like a drug lord with his private hippos for a good storyIn Columbia, Hippos breeding and overpopulating in the area resulting from a private zoo.

If you think about it, if they end up letting them be, hippo become the new largest land mammal of american continent* LOLYes, they have been debating what to do about them for quite a while. Nothing quite like a drug lord with his private hippos for a good story

I wonder if in the long run they would develop different traits from african cousins
*Edit: i was forgetting elephant seals though, guess if the southern ES can be counted as american continent land mammal it's him, but for some reason everybody seem just consider the much smaller bison to be the one
It is, they also could have easily avoided all of this by cast sting the lone male when they let them out. Or just killed them or captured them all when there was only a few animals.they are getting out of control as there are no known predators and no dry seasons to limit reproduction in columbia. i just read an article stating they are most likely going to have to kill all of them. i think that is terribly sad.
