Well I've been a Trump supporter since 2016 and despise Russia. Funny how this war started under Obama, cooled under Trump and radically intensified when Biden took office. Seems entirely fucking certain if the Ukrainian leadership wasn't willing to stand up for themselves the world would have stood by and just watched Russia take what they want from them like they have for centuries.

And this can be measured empirically by the amount of countries aiding Ukraine and the money and equipment sent, and the success of Ukraine on the battlefield.

Meaning that when it was not certain that Ukraine would last, countries like Germany would only want to donate helmets and medical kits, and the U.S. sends simple equipment like javelins, but when it is becoming clear that Ukraine can fight, we send more advanced equipment and all kinds of aid.

Kind of defeats the whole point of the "Person of the year" award. It should go to a single individual, not a collective group.

Zelensky went from a lightly regarded comedian that everyone thought would fold within days of the attack, to being the face of Ukrainian resistance, inspiring a lot of people with his fearlessness.

He has certainly improved his standing more than anybody.

TIME has previously given the award to a group of people. Below are some examples:

In 2018 they gave the award to "The Guardians" , a group of Journalists.
In 2017 they gave it to the women who started the MeToo movement
In 2014 they gave it to medical personnel who battled the Ebola virus
In 2011 they gave it to "The Protester"
In 1982 they gave it to "The Computer"
In 2003 they gave it to "The American Soldier"

So there is precedent to award it to a group, a nondescript entity or even an inanimate object.
