If you think Ronda Rousey was overrated or some type of hype train then just go ahead and kill yourself now. How could someone be hyped of overrated when they won the title and defended it 7 times? Ronda is washed up and mentally broken, but that shouldn't cloud our judgement of her whole career. She is at least a top 5 GOAT candidate with GSP, Jones, Silva, and Fedor. And when you factor in the role she played in bringing WMMA to the mainstream, becoming a cultural icon and ambassador for women in general, 7 title defenses, a string of fights that lasted under a minute, the case could be made that she is the greatest ever.

Thats it in a nutshell. The level of competition was god awful. Now the girls with good hands are coming through like nunes and schevchenko, ronda will never get back to the top.

Yeah but Ronda was very very overrated and overhyped though. That's the main flaw in your argument here.

Everyone loved and believed in Ronda prior to the Holly fight. To say she was overrated is like saying Royce Gracie was overrated. They were both pioneers but one trick ponies and the sport final caught up to them. There's nothing overrated about it. She's still beat most girls because WMMA is still in its infancy but she'll struggle against anyone that can strike.

Male BW and Fw divisions existed in the WEC. The WEC started in 2001, dummy. There are far more fighters in the male FW and BW divisions than the female divisions. There is a very low number of women fighters, and thus a low level of competition. This should not be hard to understand. It's not really even a diss on Ronda, it is just the truth.
A male Olympic wrestler that only had an arm bar and shit boxing would not be a dominant world champion in the UFC. Ronda is a great pioneer, but she is not a great fighter

Royce Gracie isn't being called overrated because he never received even a tiny fraction of they hype as Ronda. People forget how crazy it was during the height of Rondamania. People get KOd on Worldstar hiphop everyday. A KO in and of itself is not some incredible feat. The majority of the striking in BW WMMA is complete garbage. It doesn't take a perfect punch to knock out another amateur. And besides, her KOs were of accountant Bethe, and the Alexis Davis stoppage happened after a hip toss that left Davis trapped and unable to defend herself. It was not a Conor KOing Aldo situation at all. Her wins are impressive, but only within the WMMA bubble. The skill gap between the BW men and women is ocean's deep. What Ronda did would be impossible in any men's division because of the level of competition

Again, i said she has talent. She was an Olympic level judoka, but she was a one dimensional fighter fighting other one dimensional, and/or poor fighters. Conor fought and beat top tier competition. Nate Diaz spars with Andre Ward, has good boxing, as did Alvarez. Conor's opponent's have all been battle tested against other elite fighters. Ronda fought part time fighters, and unathletic girls that couldn't throw a proper punch. They were tough girls, but the skills were not there for a lot of them
And just because Conor always finishes his opponents with his left hand, that does not mean that's all he has. His movement, kicks, and boxing are what make it possible to land the left hand.
