Movies Yoda was a can

Does highlight the problem I always had with the Jedi in the prequels, they were too mundane, too woven into bureaucracy of government, I imagined them as much more separate from it, more working behind the scenes, maybe getting involved directly in the Clone Wars a bit but not working as basically the FBI/Police for the Republic.

Yoda specifically I imaged had always lived on Degobah, or at least had done so for a very long time, an ideal location for training Jedi being free of distractions and very strong with the force being so "alive", your classic hermit master teacher.

The same character just doesnt fit into the prequels nearly so well, most obviously as mentioned because the films call for him to not actually be very "wise" at all. I think if Lucas wanted to have the Jedi in the role he should have made them rather more flawed, more arrogant and someone like Yoda would have been more of an outsider maybe sticking to the "old ways" before they became too bound up with corrupt government.

Also, princess Leia was into incest.

And before you defend her by saying she didn't know Luke was her brother when she stuck her tongue in his mouth, just remember her exact words later on when she's told they're siblings:

She said "I know. Somehow, I've always known."

So she knew Luke was her brother and decided to play tonsil-hockey with him anyway.

And don't even get me started on how Obi-Wan was into it and wanted to watch this incestuous relationship take place, because what other reason would he have for not telling them?

I mean if you're mentoring a young man from beyond the grave you can obviously see him making out with his sister. Why not tell him?

"Use the force, Luke... And also, stop wanking it to Leia, she's your sister"

How difficult is that?
different time, hard to judge

Seemed like yoda was on heroin the whole time or space heroin if you will. he felt the force of the horse.

Yoda was supposed to be this super powerful super wise Jedi Master..

Was he?

Let's go through the facts:

  • Is skittish about training Anakin until Obi Wan puts his foot down and says he's gonna do it anyway
  • Has no idea a clone army was being built under the order of one of his colleagues
  • His Padawan turns to the dark side
  • Has no idea Palpatine is a Sith Lord and just stands idly by while Palps rises to power
  • Loses in a fight to Palps once it is basically already too late (Order 66 had already been executed)
  • Exiles himself to a remote planet while the Empire dominates the galaxy and subjugates its citizens
  • Refuses to train Luke, the New Hope at first (basically relegating himself to losing)
  • Has no faith that Luke, his apprentice, can save his friends from danger and orders him to complete his training
  • Tells Luke the only way to become a Jedi and restore order to the galaxy is to kill his own father (thankfully, Luke found another way)
I'm calling it here and now. Yoda was a can and severely overrated.
Dude, he was around 900 years old when he died. Way, way past his prime. He shoulda been in some old age jedi home. Instead, he was still training bratty younglings, schooling hot headed apprentices and battling the most fearsome sith lords. Take it easy on the great, great, great, great, great, great grandfather yo. Hes wasnt as sharp as he was 400 years prior. The fact that he was still kickin ass at around 900 was epic. You didnt see Ali coming outta retirement at 70 to fight Klitschko. Yoda was the greatest homie. Dont get it twisted.

Turned out, the Jedi order was a branch of the corrupt government.
Maybe not corrupt per se, but stagnant for way too long and rotting from within.
Remember that before the events of ep.1 only Ki Adi Mundi have seen a sith with his own eyes, of all the Jedi counsil.

I think the films would have been much better off if they'd have actually pushed that a bit more, a more obviously flawed Jedi order were a few characters stood out against.

What we got both made the Jedi just look incompetent and gave very little drama, little disagreement between anyone.

Anakin stood out against the Order 😁

I would have loved if all 3 prequels dived deeper in the state of the Republic, like they tried in ep.3.

I'd point out as well that Rian Johnson didnt have a fucking clue with this character, his Yoda is basically the "goofy Yoda" Luke first meets which is clearly an act to test him, doesnt really speak to his knowing or caring that much about Starwars.

I agree he was overrated. But at least he did have paranormal abilities. By contrast, that Wizard fellow was just a special effects techie.

Agree.

Prequels fucked up the image of the old cranky hermit Jedi master (Pai Mei from Kill Bill comes to mind)

Him fucking with Luke early in Empire was great.

Don't get me started on his terrible fights with Count Doku and Palps. A Grand Master like Yoda shouldn't need a lightsaber and flippy shit to demonstrate his force mastery.

ugh i get mad just reading this truth

Luckily the original trilogy is embedded in my childhood psyche for so long that I can watch them without being affected by what was done later, and can take them as a stand alone thing.

The only characters I liked in the series was Obi Wan and Anikan. The original series was better but they were all cans really, the empire was toppled by ewoks

Also loved him arguing with Force Ghost Obi-Wan in Empire.

More I think about it, he should've been used much more sparingly in the PT.

Like an appearance or two over the entire trilogy.

Unfortunatley Lucas basically shat all over the mystery and wonder of the original trilogy.

Still better than Disney.....
On the whole I found the Disney trilogy more rewatchable than the prequels...but the decision to bring back Palpatine killed the whole thing for me. Wow, that is the best you could come up with?
