I think he’s referring to the actual belt. Not the interim belt (that is really just a number 1 contender belt) that Max should have fought for. Not the guy he beat 2 fights ago!

Good interview and effort on the cliffs lad. Agree a rematch in that timeframe works given Yair doesn't want to fight till September. If Dariush loses to Charles there's not necessarily an immediate number one contender at LW so a rematch could work in June/July then Volk could fight again Sep/Oct maybe November. and the UFC can then give Yair his wish if he has to wait a few months extra to have the fight in Mexico.

Ramadan finishes end of April. Islam would need more time prepare, my guess is Islam doesn't return until the fall. Probably the Abu Dhabi card in October.

Rational argument to make but I'd ask what's your definition of proper LW contender, if Dariush loses ditto Fiviez is there another LW who'd be deserving of a title shot? Would you give Charles another LW title shot with a win over Dariush one fight removed from getting absolutely run over by Islam? Would you give Gaethje one with a win over Fiziev? Who else is there, Chandler's fighting McGregor, Poirier? Turner with a few more wins?

People need to stop thinking about title shots as "deserving" or "not deserving". it's always the next man up! If nobody else is available from a timing stand point, even Dustin would be an appropriate person to get the next TS. Beneil, Fiziev, Oliveira, Gamrot, Arman, Dustin, give any of them a title shot. The only person i'd be against giving a title shot would be Gaethje.

Apologies Sherbro, I’m going on a rant...

I was extremely pissed off that Allen was passed over for the Interim or next TS, especially considering who they decided to go with for their Interim... Yair who’s was on an 1 fight streak, a questionable win that was stumbled into by way of injury to Rodriguez. Then you have Josh Emmett who’s on a nice streak, but his last win was a SD against Calvin was unimpressive (14 of 19 media outlets thought Kattar won). Insert Allen’s win who’s win over Kattar was similarly to Yair/Rodriguez, however additionally Allen is riding a 12 fight unbeaten streak.

The other factor of the snub is the fact that time wise they could’ve scheduled Bobby Knuckles to be the co-main for 284 and Allen vs. Yair/Josh to co-main UFC 286 for the TS elimination bout, without need for an Interim. To me it’s ludicrous the hoops the UFC will jump through without rhythm or reason to ram fighters of a certain demographic down out throat. Neither Emmett or Allen are needlemovers, but you’d figure something like the 12 fight winning streak would’ve trumped a 5 fight streak topped with a SD win that most had Josh losing ffs...

100 percent agreed Sherbrethren but to use Max's favorite phrase it is what it is now and even if Allen goes and dominates hell even finishes Max which someone hasn't been able to do in a while he's still going to be behind Yair for a title shot.

If he wanted to earn the belt in a legit way he'd want to get in there as soon as Volk is willing seeing as they both fought on the same night.

Seriously though. Volk gave FW time to sort shit out and catch up with his schedule, and they still can't keep him busy enough. It's pathetic. I'm not against the Idea of volk taking a contender fight against someone like poirier at LW in the mean time.

Also the Interim Belt comes with PPV points, don't get why you guys keep calling it a glorified #1 contender spot, the interim title can be life changing to these fighters and it is not easy to get to a spot were you can fight for one.
