mao created the conditions by prioritizing industrialization over agricultural production and lying about it, not because he was deliberately trying to kill 40 million people. leaders' mistakes have consequences, it can make them irresponsible but it doesn't make them evil.

Also no freedom of speech, travel, or religion. It is a communist country. Worse than Russia and 3rd world countries, but better than North Korea.

Marx worked as a journalist and author, and seems to have worked quite hard, as his output was prolific.

Idk where the idea that he couldn't tell the difference between a large landowner and a peasant farmer comes from.

Seeing as he was a Communist in the 19th century, he wasn't aiming to become the JK Rowling of his time, and had a lot of trouble with censorship and persecution, which limited his financial opportunities.

Always remember though - the Chinese have no Reality of their own.
Their reality depends on others.

That's fundamentally an incredibly weak and insecure position to be in.
Like being in a parrallel universe where most everything you see and do is dependent on an original thought somewhere else, outside your culture.

So no, communism didnt work. The difference with the soviets was rather than isolating themselves and forming their own creative competition the chinese way is to open up and be totally intellectually dominated by others, then add their own spin on things. Seems to be working for them.
