Wrestling gets you in better shape than BJJ/Judo

I've trained gi BJJ for over a year, no-gi BJJ for over 2 years. I wrestled for a week or two with my local community college after around a year and a half of no-gi training only. I drill wrestling and train live wrestling with ex-D1 wrestlers all the time. My BJJ instructor is an ex wrestler with some judo training as well. I'm pretty sure I can discuss the topic at hand with a more qualified opinion than wrestlers who have never trained BJJ.

Just to be clear -

Both PeeWee and omgitsdick dont train bjj, but they are somehow qualified to talk about bjj.

on the other hand, someone like Frodo who has trained both, doesnt know enough about wrestling?

Listen :eek::eek::eek::eek:phile worshipper.

You think there is some majestical art to learning how to do that? You think if you have someone in the mount with their hands sticking straight up you need to pay 100 dollar private lessons to learn how to slap on an armbar? It's quite simple. I didn't say he could pull them off from intricate positions, or that he could slap them on like Fedor. You see it on t.v. you know how to do it. I said he managed to pull one off, a kimura. Jusr like Baroni, who said he saw it on t.v. after he had a sub vicotry by kimura. Omg grab the wrist with one arm, go underneath the wrist with the other arm and clasp your own wrist. OMG OMG OMG the detail.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Oh my God. Fucking hilarious, you CAN'T be serious? I think you'll find that any ex-wrestler on this forum who has dedicated any decent chunk of time to BJJ will tell you that you have no fucking clue in regard to what you're discussing here. Wow, I didn't know your ignorance was on this level.

And Baroni was fucking joking when he said that you dumb fuck. You think Phil Baroni, a professional fighter, learned how to apply a kimura by watching it on TV?

And just to be clear, i said i went to jj classes and it bored the piss outta me and maybe i'm homophobic but even after wrestling laying in someone's guard nuts to nuts ain't my thing. There wasn't enough action for me. I would do Judo though. I love watchin karo.

And you can call me Pee Wee all you want Mohammed, because his big adventure rocked.

That was a state champ? Those were some wicked fireman carry attempts he tried. And you dunked him right down with one. That wasn't a state champ. At least make your claims realistic. And like we've said, you chocking out a "state champ wrestler" has nothing to do with this whole argument, which i don't think you understand.

Asshole, that was Eric Noel.

What the fuck is so intricate about it that you need to go into depth learning how it's DONE. Obviously the application takes time to nail. Same thing with a double leg. You think you can't watch it on t.v. and know how to do it? Doesn't mean you'll be good at it, but it's pretty fucking simple, no?

With a backround in wrestling and seeing a kimura on t.v. you really think it's that freaking hard to muscle your way into one at a lower tier JJ tourny? Don't flatter yourself, you aren't rocket scientists.

No you wont slap it on like Fedor, it will be like a guy who learned to do it watching TV, and will work against the guy who learned to defend it from watching TV. You do realize Baroni has trained with some very good BJJ coaches I hope, because you are really looking sort of goofy now.

I guess I just go by folkstyle since I don't know much about greco-roman or freestyle. I've never personally known a wrestler who was not a competitor, though.

Neither me, and we don't do folkstyle up here, just freestyle and Greco-Roman. Unless you're talking about guys who used to compete but stopped once they graduated, and then joined some other grappling club (BJJ, submission, judo usually) recreationally - that's fairly common. Maybe its different in other parts of the world, but around here every wrestling club is a competition club ... actually school based (high school and university). Basically the clubs are teams, just like the football team, basketball team etc.

If you haven't trained both, you can't really claim to have an informed opinion. It's like people who have never had a beer saying alcohol is evil. Or people who have never had sex saying you don't need a chicken suit.

Yep. I have trained all three in this thread. I wrestled in high school, am a purple belt in BJJ, and a brown belt in judo. I think my opinion is informed.

I've seen brain surgery on Discovery channel.

Anybody out there need some brain surgery?

Sure, that's why everybody watches the NFL on TV can throw a football while being rushed by 300 pound tackles like Peyton Manning - as you say, not rocket science :icon_twis

And why medical degrees are a waste of time - watch a few real life medical shows and you're all set to take out your neighbor's appendix if it acts up :icon_chee

Haha, omgitsdick, you're killing me.
Meanwhile "anaconda" is a much better name, why not "tiger" or "viper" instead?

obviously the Baroni was a joke dummies. The guy is a pro.

Bacon, that's really dumb. JJ is as intricate and full of detail as brain surgery? Pull your head outta your ass.

The difference between you and me is, I was being sarcastic and you were being ignorant.

Ball IN paimei's court. Of course he was a better wrestler than Noel, and will tell us so now.

I never made any claims of granduer like jimmy did. That kid was no state champ, did you see those takedown attempts and defense?

He posted a fucking link showing you who the guy was. You don't believe that the guy is who he says he is? You think he's just publicly lying about being a state champ?

how in the fuck can i tell if the guy in the pic is the guy in the video?

Um, use your eyes and look at his face. The Youtube video is clear enough. Here's a picture of him when he fought in those same shorts from his myspace:

There's a picture of him in those same shorts on Next Level's front page:

Here's a bracket I found on the internet BTW.

2001 West Virginia State Wrestling Tournament AA/A 135

He's a good fighter and wrestler. I'm not bragging that I beat him. You won't listen to reason. How much more fucking evidence do I need to present to you? That was Eric Noel. I'm not lying. You calling me a liar is very insulting.

hey man, this started out as a convo about practicing a more aggressive grappling developing you more strength, which seems obvious. Then you posted that which had nothing to do with what we were arguing about. That has nothing to do with my claims of wrestling being more aggressive vs. jj which allows for passivity.

You posted an unrelated video with you beating a "state champ" I call b.s. there is no way what he displayed on that video were the moves of a state champ. Like I said that move at the start, the front headlock with his body on your right side, your head by his right foot, then he sticks that foot out for a trip attempt that made no sense. It was J.V. You could have had an easy single. No state champ makes that mistake or gets dunked by that fireman's carry. Sorry dude, but i call b.s.
