Wrestlers who finish

Ryan "Darth" Bader. He's 8-3 in the UFC with 4 brutal finishes. He may not be champion as long as Jones and Machida are at his weight class, but he is strong, relatively well-rounded, and always dangerous.

In order for a wrestler to finish he's got to learn other stuff.

That's why guys with collegiate rassling creds shouldn't be allowed to do MMA.

I agree with the bolded part. It proves why wrestling isnt a martial art. Second part I dont agree with.

hughes, jones, velasquez etc

if you mean guys who go to finish and not win rounds

Hendricks has finished a lot of fights. Hendo has finished a lot with the H-Bomb.

No it is not. No offensive moves whatsoever. Name one besides the every once in awhile slam KO. Ill wait.

It's sorta a hybrid martial art/sport but I'd say it's at least as much a martial art as judo and way more than Karate point fighting... You could tap someone with a tight head and arm pin (Mark Coleman even did it in an early fight), or by cranking hard on a headlock or full nelson (not technically legal but every wrestler knows it). Also, early wrestling forms like "catch as catch can" (aka Catch wrestling) had most of the same submissions as jiu jitsu if we want to go there.

Either way, wrestlers have run through traditional martial artists since the early days of MMA, even before they started to bother with learning other stuff like submissions so it obviously works.

I suggest you look up the definition of a martial art.
Finishing is not a criterium.

any of several Oriental arts of weaponless self-defense; usually practiced as a sport; "he had a black belt in the martial arts".

Thats what I found. What in wrestling can you use as a weaponless self-defense that will actually work?

Go to a wrestling practice. You're done when you get slammed on a hard floor.
Or just hold someone down and prevent them from inflicting damage.

A hard slam then slap on a headlock and crank until they give up, pass out, or have a serious neck injury (it's possible to break it if you really crank).

Or just do what Mark Coleman would do...

I think if Phil davis keeps working on his MMA BJJ, he will be a very dominant force in 2-3 years time. He already has a lot of explosive power in his wrestling. He just needs his striking to catch up

"when they took headbutts away I ahhhh......had to learn new tactics" -The Hammer

Guida's performance against Hioki left a bad taste in everyone's mouth it seems so why not look on the bright side and celebrate the wrestlers who finish, past or present?

Urijah Faber is the first to comes to my mind, he's really worked on his striking and BJJ so that it compliments his wrestling very well.

Hughes is another one who had a good record of finishes against his higher level opposition. Johnny Hendricks has been KOing some durable guys like Fitch and Kampmann and was looking for it against Kos as well.

EDIT: This isn't a thread to bash or praise it as the best style. Its a thread to discuss the fighters who come from a wrestling background and have developed into consistent finishers, whether or not they use their wrestling to finish.

Why would it leave a bad taste in your mouth? Who's load did you swallow?

Jones, Hendricks, Evans, Ellenberger, Koscheck, Henderson, Velasquez, Lesnar, Carwin,

Henderson, Koscheck, Hendricks, and Carwin are strikers with a wrestling background. Not wrestlers that finish.
