Wrestlers who finish

I don't think we should put too much of an emphasis on finishing. There are plenty of fighters who do not finish on a regular basis that I like very much. Faber doesn't finish all that often, neither does Edgar, even Diaz has his fair share of decisions.
It isn't necessarily about finishing, it's about trying to inflict damage and move towards a finish. If you don't get there I won't hold it against a fighter.
It's just the fighters who's goal is to maintain a safe top control for the majority of the fight, and won't attempt to inflict damage or advance position or attempt submissions because it might jeopardize them maintain top control that piss me off.

I agree that as w hole, we should judge fighters not solely on their ability to finish but on their willingness to finish also.

That said, the mark of an effective fighter is achieving the finish, not to mention this thread is to celebrate those wrestlers that break the stereotype of being primarily control fighters.

I felt like you did correlate the two by making this thread.

Sorry for busting up your thread then.

That was not my intention but given the things that are said on a regular basis concerning wrestlers I can't really blame you.

King Mo and Cain are the first to come in my mind.

Kos came to my mind. If you remember the first season of TUF at how BAD his striking was, and how much he developed since then.

Matt Hughes comes to mind. He used BJJ with his wrestling to finish guys.

I'm sure Ben Henderson can finish lower top 10 guys with relative ease. On top of that he's pretty exciting to watch.

Jones, Hendricks, Evans, Ellenberger, Koscheck, Henderson, Velasquez, Lesnar, Carwin,

Jones has to be one of the better examples given, he really seems to have a knack for the submission game and his striking is coming along nicely.

Faber was a walk-on @ ca. davis wrestling program and finished his collegiate career as UC-Davis' all-time win leader and as an alternate on the University Nationals World Team.

Diaz is not a wrestler, holy shit.

Hughes is probably the best example. Also Hendo, Coleman, Kerr, Lesnar, Koscheck, Hendricks.

To be a finisher, wrestlers either have to become good strikers, good at subs, or GOOD AT GNP. That last one IMO seems to be overlooked by many wrestlers these days and it's the most important skill for a wrestler to add. Glad to see that Askren has added GNP to his arsenal, he could be a real force.
