Wouldn't gastelum be better off at bellator?

I think he'd be better off because getting cut is the only chance at a "wake up call" he can get at this point. He could go improve elsewhere and come back as a legitimate contender. Sadly, the MW division is painfully shallow and he will likely stay and continue floundering but he is a complete waste of talent who could have been a champion IMO
Dude was literally just some follow up punches away from the belt. If he doesn’t let Izzy recollect after that head kick, he is the champ. Sure he’s been outmatched and made some fight IQ mistakes. And yeah he is undersized as a MW. But the dude has heart and skill. He belongs in the ufc.

4-5-1

He isn't even a .500 fighter at middleweight. He is nowhere near the best, what you are arguing is that he has a very impressive chin. Nobody is doubting how tough Kelvin is, but if you fight him in the UFC at middleweight, you have better then 50/50 chance of beating him just by showing up.

3 of his total 4 wins at middleweight were against literal retiring fighters.

The only thing Kelvin can accomplish at 185lbs is continued unnecessary head trauma. It's a bummer because he would be a title contender at 170lbs.

We would be better or at WW or even LW.

Or say screw it and just fight at FlyWeight right?

He’s a title contender at 185. He fought for the belt fairly recently. Sure he’s had a bad run here lately, he may not ever win it, but he belongs there. He’s fighting top 5 guys, maybe he’s top 10, but he’s not dropping more than that. Still belongs in the ufc, sure WW would be more appropriate for his size, but he doesn’t wanna cut, I don’t blame him. Let him bang some lower ranked guys and get some wins before he gets back at top contenders. He has fight IQ issues imo.

At 185: Mousasi, Tokov and Vanderford would all beat him. I'm not sure he can beat Costello, Salter, Larkin either, those are 50/50 fights

At 170: Lima, Amosov, Berkhamov, Jackson, Koreshkov would all beat him and I would pick Joey Davis and Storley also against him. A fight against Daley or MVP would be great tho

He's an absolute nightmare matchup for Vanderford imo, don't see how Austin gets that done at all.

Exactly the same like Weidman did it. He's not really a nightmare matchup. Gastelum gets taken down in almost every fight

Weidman had to go through the ringer in that fight to get it done and Vanderford doesn't have Weidman's power on the feet.

He lacks the stand up to distract Kelvin enough to incorporate his grappling imo. Kelvin is faster and more powerful on the feet than he is.

0 top wins against contenders under the age of 35 says otherwise. He gets wrestlefucked and is a gate keeper at best. Colby bullies him by domination and Gassy knows it.
0 top ten wins against relevant competition. Squats on unearned number one ranking, avoids top contenders, got taken down repeatedly by rda. Gastelum knocks his Ass out. We all know this. How the fuck is colby going to hold kelvin down first of all? How's he going to keep that uo for 5 rounds? We know he fucking can't. In the usman fight and the rda fight he gassed and then got a second wind. So you expect him to spam takedowns against gastelum for 25 minutes and not get knocked out? You're out of your goddamn mind.

would be a champion in Bellator. I am stoked when his fights are announced tho. The guy brings it every time!

He's still young, puts on fun, competitive fights and has been a UFC staple for about a decade. I would not let him go.

What match up at MW is no good featuring Kelvin? Even all the rematches would be awesome.

But the answer to your question comes down to how much more would Bellator pay for him and nobody knows that. If they're not paying him more, I don't think it's better for him to go there. Take Bader, for example, he's doing great there and it didn't up his profile. There was a spike when he fought Fedor and then it's back to the usual, despite being a double champ.

What did Weidman do standing in that fight? I remember him being robotic and he missed all his shots from that combo near the fence. Sorry but Gas is not that hard to take down lately and Vanderford would be relentless. We all love Kelvin but he would lose to Vanderford most likely man

I'd have to agree to disagree on that one I guess, if Kelvin was an underdog, I'd definitely be betting on him.

He needs to get disciplined and fight at 170. He matches up well with Usman.

Did you miss the part where I said that he should go restart his career, build momentum, and come back as a contender? The guy is 1-5 in his last 6 fights... he is not sniffing a title shot any time soon and will not earn his way to one given his current lack of dedication/discipline. As I said, I believe the guy has championship level talent as well but he was completely underperformed and blown chance after chance to be great. I don't think anything besides a release could wake him up but it's unlikely he does get released which IMO will allow him to keep going at the same pace and never reach his full potential

I agree with most of it. But he’s 1-4 in his last 5. 3-4 in his last 7. Lost a title fight against Izzy, no shame in that. Lost a shitty point fight to till, not much he could do with Tills length and reluctance to engage. Overlooked Hermansson and got caught, by a great submission specialist. Ok 3 losses in a row, needs a win, gets it against heinisch. Great, back in the W column, he beats Bobby, he’s right back in the title picture. Sad thing is, he wasn’t good enough to beat Rob. I say let him run it back with hermansson and prove that was a fluke. Then run it back with till if he thinks he can beat him, right back in it again. It’s all about what you’ve done lately. He gets 3-4 good wins he’s back at it. And he has the ability. He doesn’t need to leave the promotion, I don’t think any of us really know what Kelvin’s training or mindset is, but you gotta think he’s gotta be working on that fight IQ.

Wouldnt beat Mousasi but he'd be top 5 guy over there at MW and probably get a title shot.
