Hard life as a child. Then progressively easier into adulthood then easy street around 30's. I'd think one would be less likely to ruin it that way.

Nah, struggling and over coming stuff is how you grow.

Having it easy would just get boring to quick. Most folks wanna have purpose and strive for more. Having everything stress free kind of takes away that element.

Easy life. No Stress. But you create your own adversity. Do BJJ. Do a 5K or 10K marathon. Join a bowling league. Go to a gym. Crossfit. Etc.
Yeah that's it, I don't want stress but I like to set personal challenges like BJJ, Ultras, hardcore workouts and new hobbies.

I imagine most people that have actually had a hard life will choose easy. To me this is something akin to rich people "slumming" it. It might look cool and interesting from the outside, but those really living it tell a different story.

Tough at the beginning. A steep uphill climb through middle age. The after 50 things need to slow down to a point where most problems go away with planning and money.

The good thing about easy life is that you can harden it as much as you want.

Have it easy and you still can go after hard challenges like competitive sports, activism, research, exploring, volunteer work etc. If you fail at it you still have your safety net so you're not ruined.

Somebody made the comparison with videogames. Have an easy life is like playing a game with selectable dificulty, much better than being stuck at Very Hard Mode.

most people don't know what hard mode is until it's too late

I did, because you appreciate life better when you are rewarded for your hard work.
I think we are talking about two different things here...

One thing is to self impose some hard things to do in life and accomplish them (I go to the gym, trained combat sports for almost 20 years and fuck it I'm even taking singing lessons)... which is all great and very rewarding.

Other thing is to get fucked in the ass by life on a daily basis because you have health issues, financial issues, bad enviroment, etc... it is just not the same.
I was a teenager during the 2001 crisis in Argentina (you guys have no idea how bad it was)... we had no money, no hope, there was pure violence and sadness outside the house. Fuck all of that.

So no... I take the easy life and I chose to pick my challenges. There are people that is going to end up being lazy fucks that way and there are people on the other extreme that will end up mentally ill like david goggins. I think the sweet spot is in the middle.
