Would Conor Mcgregor beat "motivated Bj Penn"?

Both guys went on the downhill slide once they started thinking that they were boxers. When BJ relied on his grappling, he was phenomenal. He didn't seem to understand that the threat of his grappling is why he was so successful on the feet. Once he represented zero threat on the ground, his striking got exposed, kind of. He was one of the first guys to utilize a good jab, and his hands were pretty decent, but overall he just wasn't a very versatile striker on the feet, especially during the latter part of his career. Conor had more tools as a striker but he'd be lost if it went to the ground with BJ.

Penn took down and out grappled Fitch before he gassed. Rocked Hughes, took his back and submitted him. Questionably beat Georges in their first fight. Took flush punches from prime Rory and didn't get dropped long after his expiration date. He would beat Conor into a living death and you don't even need to ask Ken Shamrock.

Nailed it

Prime BJ with a proper gameplan out grapples and subs Connor fairly easily. People forget how good Penn's jitz was because he tended to use his standup way more often toward the end of his career.

People often forget that a fat 191lb. Penn went the distance with a 225lb. version of Lyoto Machida. If he can handle Machida's striking he could handle Conor's IMO.

While he didn't employ the same leg tactics as Khabib to keep an opponent grounded, he was good at using his legs almost like a 2nd set of arms to help immobilize his opponents and set them up for chokes.

I don't think Conor could beat a drunk BJ let alone a motivated one...

Conor gasses early, offers his neck, taps quickly then claims submissions don't count.

BJ wouldn't be top 20 on his best day with the current LW division. Jens Pulver and Conor are not in the same universe.

LOL, BJ fought GSP to a split decision. GSP is the GOAT, GSP would even beat today's best WWs. Absolutely hilarious take. Today's fighters, on avg, are better than ever, but just laughable how this "new breed" logic is so flawed. Assuming a guy like Penn wouldn't even be top 20 in today's LW division. BJ has better wrestling, better BJJ, better boxing, only thing Conor has is some kicks maybe. Penn's chin would hold up to Conor's vaunted power too.

Penn took down and out grappled Fitch before he gassed. He would do whatever he wanted to with Conor. Penn is a guy who went up to WW & fought the best (GSP, Hughes, Fitch). Conor goes up to WW to face guys whom spent most of their career at LW (Nate is 5-6 at WW, Cerrone was never a real WW). Penn fought Machida to a competitive decision. Before you claim Machida was no good back then, Machida had already KO'd Franklin before fighting Penn

BJ would absolutely rape Conrad on the ground.

im not saying this as a delusional bj penn fan, but in all honesty, prime bj penn would literally steam roll conor. he would outbox him, outwrestle him, and submit him. whatever he wanted

Prime BJ got ktfo by a fat fuck bar room brawler on a street Corner. Corner sparks him np.

Motivated BJ beats Conor. Pre Whiskey Conor beats unmotivated BJ. Unmotivated BJ beats post ankle break Conor

Prime BJ Penn out strikes Conor in the later rounds and wins by either tko or sub.

Yeah easily BJ Penn, one of the best P4P fighters in his prime. Can't say the same for Conor who was beating manlets and can barely string wins together when moving up in weight.

Listen to GSP talk about BJ Penn. BJ Penn during his 3 fight run is about as bad a match up for Conor as he could get. A fast boxer, with an excellent chin that can fight from the bottom if Conor drops him. The only thing BJ might have lacked is cardio, but not during that title period.

Would be an interesting fight if they're both in their prime, I think.

I'd pick Penn though

I feel like Conor would have the better cardio of the 2. Prime BJ probably wouldn't get KO'd, so maybe Conor takes a decision I guess.

It was impressive but Machida was also fat. In the UFC Machida fought at 200lbs to 205lbs on fight night then later fought at 200lbs at MW making a water weight cut.

Bj got sucker punched by the fat drunk guy...if youre going to talk shit, at least let it be right.

Still is not a good look for an alleged P4P GOAT. And I say this as someone who thinks if Bj fought smart he would beat Conor
