Would Conor Mcgregor beat "motivated Bj Penn"?

Win or lose it's a tough fight for Conor. I personally do not think McGregor would have been able to walk through Penn with his striking.

Conor gives BJ the Alvarez treatment.

BJ can wins for sure, but idk if he would. Prime Conor has a way of breaking fighters before a fight. Nate and Khabib are mentally tougher than BJ imo.
In his prime, BJ's boxing, wrestling, BJJ and Fight IQ were MUCH higher than Eddie's were in that fight. We're talking about a guy who gave Machida a good fight. And that was a fat, young, BJ, not the best version.

He’s essentially got Nate’s skill set.
Similar. He was less rangy and didn't have the same volume of strikes, but hit harder, had better wrestling and was a far better athlete. They didn't call him "prodigy" for nothing. He had otherwordly flexibility on the mat (which I don't even think he worked on) and an unusual ability to learn quickly. That's why he started winning grappling tournaments without much experience and could stand toe to toe with Machida. The Diaz boys worked hard and gained legitimate skills, but are/were pretty average athletes. There are some GIFs of Penn being able to avoid TDs while training that are really impressive and go beyond good technique.

Two guys with notoriously bad gas tanks, but BJ is just better everywhere than conman. I'd take BJ regardless.

Prime, motivated BJ Penn carrying boulders under water is the LW GOAT. He would have beaten Khabib, Oliviera, Connor and Islam with ease.

conor sold his soul to the devil to style on manlets
the more disparate the reach, the easier it gets

Prime BJ beats Conor up all over the octagon and strangles him for the finish

Penn had a notoriously low fight IQ. "Just Scrap" etc.

McGregor would get under his skin very badly in the buildup to the fight. I doubt Penn would attempt TD's. Did Penn have the skill to beat McGregor? Sure. Would he show up and actually do it on fight night? I wouldn't bet on it.

Teh guy who beat the shit out of and finished Joe Daddy, Sherk, Sanchez, Florian would be a nightmare for for conor.

Penn as better takedowns than Nate, his top game is better (passing and g-n-p), is faster, heavier hands, a great chin, can fight going back or forward.

He wouldn't mop the floor with conor but he'd get a TKO or Sub within 3rds. Penn is just as much of an asshole outside the cage as conor so the trash talk would not affect him like it did Aldo.

Remember, the thread says "Motivated Penn," and BJ's mental game was pretty unbreakable when he was motivated; Conor's antics would not have an effect on the motivated one.

Not meaning to insult, but Alvarez and Penn are a laughable comparison because of matchup differences. Penn is not going to be getting tooled constantly in the standup like Alvarez, and BJ could eventually get him down by making Conor worry about his strikes (where Conor would be in a world of hurt).

Bj was a killer

I think this is a super bad matchup for conor.

right now?!? of course. bj hasn't been worth a damn for 12 years! conor isn't what he used to be but he's still a solid fighter. much younger than BJ too. if anyone actually thinks BJ could beat conor, they should be banned from this site.

Good thing its obvious we arent talking about old penn

I try to be as unbiased and objective when it comes to BJ's career since I'm a big fan of his. With that being said if it was prime BJ vs prime Conor at LW I think BJ has the better chance of winning. BJ had great boxing, reflexes and a granite chin and obviously world class TDD and ground game. Although I think the biggest factors would be gameplan and if the fight did go the distance, who breaks first. Not to say Conor could not stop him. We know historically if you break BJ's will, it's almost certain he loses. Also Conor has great boxing and KO power as well. At the same time lets not forget how unstoppable Round 1 BJ was. Even outside of his prime BJ was still very dangerous in Round 1 as we've seen in the Diaz and Fitch matches. Would be a great hypothetical match, but I take BJ as the slight favorite.

Conor is nothing special at LW and WW. Prime Penn by TKO or Sub by the end of the 2nd round or certainly in the 3rd after a competitive first.
