Ricco had better submission grappling than Brock.
So did Mir.
You really think Nog is subbing Brock off gis back??
Ricco had better submission grappling than Brock.
It wouldn't have looked anything like Brock's fight with Mir. That's not to say Brock couldn't have won--it's entirely possible he could hurt Nog on the feet and finish him on the ground. But Brock would NEVER have been able to sit in Nog's guard for an extended period of time. His guard was much better than Mir's guard. Mir was brilliant at catching submissions during transitions (which is how he caught Nog). But if you got past the transition and crushed the space on him, Mir's guard was nothing to write home about.
Brock stayed in Mir's half-guard for almost an entire round and battered his face. Nog would have swept Brock from half guard (like he did to Timmeh) or, at the very least, regained full guard and started threatening submissions.
So did Mir.

No, but he would tire him out and finish him in the later rounds ala Bob Sapp. Brock had shit cardio whereas Nog had some of the best HW has ever seen. He was still going strong at the end of Fedor 3.
Unlike Ricco, Mir never had decent positional grappling, he was great at catching quick subs from unorthodox positions (Tank, Brock 1, Nog 2), but outside of that was not very refined. He could not compete at ADCC like Ricco did. Nogueira was a great positional grappler and outside of Fedor 1, he never took alot of damage from the guard.
Long story short, Nogueira weathers any early storm, tires out Brock, and either subs or TKO's him in round 4 or 5.
1. Ricco's BJJ was lightyears ahead of Brock's. And obviously Brock's wrestling was much better than Ricco's. So yes, Brock could certainly take Nog down whenever he wanted. Sweeping a high-level BJJ player like Ricco is in no way related to sweeping a wrestler who was a submission grappling neophyte. How much better do gou guys really think Ricco's top game wasthan Brocks??
Pride Nog couldnt sweep and was taken down at will by Ricco. Bork clobbers him
LOL at comparing Timmy to Bork

2. I wasn't comparing Timmeh to Brock. I was simply giving an example of what I was talking about. Nog was very good at half guard sweeps (and regaining guard); Brock would never be able to hold Nog in half guard like he did to Mir.

Pride Nog yes. UFC Nog no...

This. Pride Nog with pride rules. That's 10 mins in the first round to work would have submitted Brock. But UFC Nog whilst still good was not the same
I largely agree. One problem for Nog would be his love of wrist control to set up position from the bottom. I don't know how well that would work for him against Brock. No, but he would tire him out and finish him in the later rounds ala Bob Sapp. Brock had shit cardio whereas Nog had some of the best HW has ever seen.
