Would Big Nog have defeated Brock at UFC 100?

The way Brock destroyed Frank Mir, no way Nog would've been able to submit him. Nogs submission game is one of the most overrated in MMA.

yeah but his sweeps were way better than Mir's, especially vs big guys. i think he probably gets pounded out but i wouldn't be that surprised to see him take a beating for 2 rds, cause a scramble in rd 3 while Brock is resting and get a submission.

I think he had taken a little too much punishment by then. He could have maybe pulled off a sub though.

Around 2010, Nog had knee and hip surgery and then once more a few years later. Both hips were supposedly replaced. Around UFC 100, Nog may have been in his early thirties but after all those beatings he took in Pride, he was a shell of his former self.

No way in hell he would have stopped Brock Lesnar's takedown in 2009 and not even in Pride. Prime nog in 2000-2005 would be a threat off his back no doubt. Was it enough to sneak a submission against Brock Lesnar? I don't know man. All we have to go off is Lesnar's fight with Mir.

I guess the better question is, was Brock Lesnar's guard that good to a point where Frank Mir could not escape? Or did Mir make the mistake of being too comfortable in that position to try and escape

You could argue I spose that Nog even by that stage would be a bit harder to beat the way Brock beat Mir in the rematch. I think Frank always had a weakness to opponents who just slowly ground him down if they avoided making any major errors were as Nog was both tougher and better defensively.

Standing I think there would be the threat of Brock landing one massive shot as Nog was hittable but generally I would favour Nog. I think Brock could probably take him down if he was in trouble at first bit if the fight went long perhaps that wouldnt be so easy.

This thread makes serious mistakes by saying "all top BJJ guys have an equal guard"

Mir was notorious for being susceptible to GNP before the Brock fight ever happened. Nog's guard was better / UFC 100's Mir had a completely different game
He didn't "barely" beat Heath. He clearly beat Heath but it's because Heath messed up. After that HK landed Heath should've jumped on Nog and swarmed him but Heath was hesitant, let Nog stand up and allowed Nog to recover from what should've been a fighting ending kick.
One of the most underrated strikes ever IMO. This was the strike that essentially broke Nog's chin. Nog said as much I believe in an interview just how hard that strike impacted him.

At the time people were saying Nog was Brock's worse nightmare. It's funny how time passes and public opinion changes over the years. These forums would've had everyone calling the fight for Nog. After seeing how many L's he took later when it was apparent he was out of his prime, I think people know now UFC 100 Brock would've really smashed him. He's not like Bob Sapp, Brock would get to a position you can't sweep or sub and gnp you until the tko.

Yeah, I can see that if Nog can sustain damage at that point of his career, but the way Mir finished him was pretty bad

I swear Nog is one of the most overrated HWs along with Lesnar, Couture, and Cormier. Nog was 1 dimesional, very slow, injury prone due to childhood accident, and a terrible striker he also had poor takedowns and was not a physical specisman.

Nog would likely lose only because by that time Lesnar because pretty much submission proof. The only BJJ guys I would favor over Lesnar is Big Foot and Werdum and both are vastly superior strikers to Lesnar and hard to takedown or out grapple and able to always stand up also more athletic than Nog. And Big Foot would be just as heavy or heavier than Brock. The way to beat Lesnar is if takendown grapple to stand back up as Couture and Cain did. The only person who seemed to out wrestle Brock purely was Carwin and I suppose someone like Blaydes would due to his BJJ background as well.

Again Nog beats early Lesnar but if Frank Mir cannot submit Brock and escape Brocks grappling I do not see how the less athletic Nog would. The BJJ of Nog and Mir is very similar and let us not forget Mir submitted Nog.... People will say it is out of prime Nog but the reality is BJJ skills do not decline with age. Nog did not lose that fight due to his weaker chin.

That's tough... Nog back in the day, for sure would win imo. But by that time, he was starting to become a shell of his former self. Brock probably would've tko'd him on the ground, but I wouldn't have been surprised to see him pull something out of nowhere.

Brock would beat Nog to a bloody mess for 4 1/2 rounds then Nog would pull out a submission in the waning moments.

Really? So terrifying he got right up after the fight was stopped.
That’s weird. I never wrote that. Maybe you got the names over typed n mixed around when you were quote posting. I literally never wrote any post in this thread talking about gnp.
