Media Wonderboy Didn't Get His Show Money

If u believe that ur an idiot, wonderboy definitely got paid for making weight. The UFC actually takes exceptional care of their fighters. Unlike other promotions. UFC is the best place for any fighter, I don’t care what they say

justice was served.

to all the people saying, blame the guy who didn't make weight, well this proves you were wrong ALL ALONG!!!

Now they just gotta move him down the rankings as well. I think move him down 3 rankings is fair. Do you guys think moving him down 3 rankings is adequate?

he's not being punished.

he cancelled the fight. So why should he get paid show money?... that's not punishment. That's the equivalent of not showing.

It's up to him if he's not willing to accept fighting the guy missing weight. Nothing says the guy had to or the fight is cancelled. The fight still could have gone ahead. Upto him. He woulda been well aware of the fact of him refusing to fight = this. So I dunno why people are acting like he's hard done by.

Thompson didn't "cancel" a fight with a 170lb opponent. The UFC failed to provide the 170lb opponent Thompson agreed in the contract to fight.

I don't blame WB. I also don't blame a fighter if he gets poked in the eye and says I can't continue. My eye is fucked up. The whole "be a warrior" thing is foolish. You gotta think of your career. Tony could have taken a no contest with that eye poke instead of another L and stay on. He looked good in the first round.

I'm sorry for what you've done to your mind and/or integrity.

UFC has successfully gaslighted the fanbase into believing accepting overweight or replacement fights as obligation instead of a favor for the company that it is. It is UFC that cannot fulfill the terms and renegotiation should be at the fighter's discretion, show money should be looked as compensation for lost opportunity, money and time that the fighter was obligated to fulfill due to anticipation of said contract fulfillment.

Surprised this was not in contracts by default, need a union more than ever.

No.

Fights aren't cancelled if the fighter doesn't make weight.

The fighters are aware each other may not make weight, and there is punishment for that - percentage loss of purse. Wonderboy and all fighters know this going in. I understand he doesn't think the punishment outweighs (no pun intended) the advantage of the extra weight...

Cool, so then it's up to him if he wants to CANCEL it. The fight was agreed at 170lbs, yes. The other fighter did not make that weight, and would have faced the PRE-AGREED AND KNOWN penalty for not making weight. Which was NOT that the fight doesn't happen - Wonderboy made that choice to say he's not happy to go ahead, with the guy being extra weight. That's up to him. But you don't get your cake and eat it. HE cancelled it.

This is like an opponent fouling, getting a warning, then you quit the fight. And say you're not happy the warning is enough. Cool. You still quit the fight. You don't get to just openly try to redefine rules then still say you won or wanted to fight.

He’s 40 at this point why not just move to coaching guys half his age.

What's funny is that in pro boxing, a 3-pound miss would absolutely not be tolerated. Wonderboy went through a training camp, completed fight-week obligations, and made weight, but he doesn't deserve his show money because his opponent missed weight? Is he even gonna get his Venum sponsorship money?
